Candy apple red. Its a color that is first sprayed gold or silver, then the candy red color is shot over the base color giving it this nice wet deep color look. I shoot it all the time.
could be any old red from any paint manufacturer…. there are thousands of colors out there. doesnt really look like any special color to me
I wish I know who the owner of this boat is.
Aquacraft support people told me it belongs to one of their customers...
So I should ask for OLD RED or CANDY APPLE RED?
What about the type of this paint or what type of it I should ask for at the custom paint store?
Thanks

"Candy Apple" is transparent. As noted above you need gold or silver, solid color as base coat. I prefer to use gold as it pops more, IMO. Pactra makes it as well as Tamiya. Most hobby shops carry it.
duplicolor has a bunch of rattlecans similar to that

not if you use duplicolor just a good primer. I did that on a couple of my son's boats and added three coats of clear and it looked great in the son

Would tamiya ps paints be a good choice for small rc boat hulls?
you can get lots of nice colours, they dont cost too much, and if they are for polycarbonate Rc bodies, they have some give in them so it wouldnt crack?
lipo, find a ppg dealer. tell them you want gold paint and some transparent red… then just go to it. an automotive paint supplier will have chips for you to look at also...
A body shop may be willing to paint your hull.
As stated above, It's a candy apple red which is a transluscent red where the gold base color shines through giving a deep golden red color. It's also done with a blue on a silver base.
You may not be happy with a candy color done in one step.

I agree, proper candy colour as the AQ boat is painted is done with a metalic base colour.
I once painted a mono with base gold and clear Orange, It was a beautiful, warm golden colour using Tamiya TS brand, very nice paints.
Prime, base, candy, then clears if you wish

My VS1 cowl is actually done in a candy colour but I mixed black and dark brown to get the colour I wanted, (like on the VS1 box). I bought the AutoAir series paints from Curry's. White sealer, then a metallic coat (silver or gold) then the candy colour. Applied decals and then finished with a rattle can clear from Napa Autoparts. I used the 1k which seems to be fine even for nitro - so far. The 2K is a two part clear and provides a more durable finish but once you mix the can you have only a few hours to use it all.

Anybody has an idea of the silver base and red candy apple paint code?
I wish I know this painting business.... This will be my first time dealing with it...
Thanks

You can use any fairly transparent color(essentially clear with a little bit of tint in it) as a top coat. PPG(my fav), DuPont, R-M(are they still around?) will have a formula for a "Candy" color. I shot a bunch of Honda V45 and V65 Magna parts in the 80's. Some used a gold, base coat, some used silver, the really deep looking ones used a charcoal gray base. It was loaded with poly flake and looked like it was a mile deep after you shot about 3 coats of clear urethane over it. Problem is that you cannot touch the basecoat or it will look really funky. It has got to be dirt free and it is really hard to scuff it (near impossible) and make it look right. I love a good candy color with a little poly in the color to make it like the flake comes right up to the surface.
