    Default Fightercat HV 16S/300A esc

    Guys,

I tested one of Ben's new 16S/300A speedo's last weekend in several known set-ups including a AM conquest and a DF33. In short, the speedo worked excellently. The Fightercat program box is great and easy to use pond side tool for changing options. I ran the esc on 4S, 6S, 8S and 10S all in 2P configurations. Currents ranged from 172A to 275A continous for a little over a minute and a half to simulate a heat race with some letting off in the turns. This is also the practical limit for my 5000mAh packs. The esc I was using had twin cooling plates top and bottom which worked well in keeping the FETS cool. The caps were on the warm side, but no bulging or signs of over-stress.

    The motors I used included a 1515 1y Castle, a Neu 1521 1.5D, a Neu 1527 1D, a castle 2028 and a Neu 2215 1.5Y. Motor temps were all withing normal ranges considering the heavy loads.

I would recommend this controller to users looking for a good HV set-up. I am very pleased.

Great review, Tyler, thanks. I was considering on of these or the 400amp version for my big Sniper with a 2028 on 10s2p.

I just recieved mine Tyler and it is a beast - the Schulze 40/160 which will tolerate 250+ amps have 30Fets for power handling , Bens controler comes with 48Fets . This unit should be able to handle 400A +

You guys will be happy with the performance. I would recommend HD connectors and potentially extra caps if running long wires or pulling extreme amps.

Are these custom built by Fightercat?

    Are they easy to use?

I think he has them built to his specs. Programming looks to be easy...a usb by computer or a field programmer. I hope they like water unlike the Swordfish speedos as things happen sometimes. Might post my NIB SF240 for sale to get one of these.

Great review Tyler, I'm glad to hear things went well for you and you liked the speedy.

I have 7 of these units for my various projects (as well as a heap of his other sizes), I used one on 12s in my genesis on the weekend, the temps after a thrashing were under 100F, I'd say we were only pulling somewhere around 100 amps tho lol. I would highly recommend the programming box to everyone, they are very simple to use, just make sure you follow the instructions, have the speedy plugged into the motor AND the battery packs, and if you have a smaller model with built in bec do NOT use an RX pack on the programming box or you may short something. Other than that they are exceptionally nicely built for the money, internally and externally and the dual cooling blocks is a nice addition.

Now waiting on his 12s/400 to come out for some 12s saw projects for next year to go with the 24s/200's for my 2 big cats.

    Guys,

These are super easy to use and I believe they come just as he sent it to me. The programming box is straight forward and a no brainer. A++

    Hello Tyler,

thanks for the nice review about the ESC. Actually some pictures would be nice as well, I've seen the specs on the homepage but would like to know how big it looks compared to known components as motors or hulls.

    Best regards,
    Manuel

Ask and ye shal receive, here it is next to a LMT3080. I know the sticker says 200A, but they are the same size, I am waiting on my 300's to arrive, The esc is 57mm wide, 175mm long from motor bullet outputs to end of caps, and 20mm thick with twin cooling blocks like the 300 comes with standard.

    Manuel,

I will take some pics when return home, but I think Kyle is spot on.

Also see my post about the Neu/Schulzes working too. Seems like the esc God's are smiling for the moment.

Manuel here is another representation next to a Neu 1515 , I would like some 300amp decals when they are available also .

I have the 16/170 in a 32 pound - 3080/11 powered 57" mono and that controler is only half of this one - physicaly the same size just a single board , this is a dual board back to back

As some of you know I have been abusing these controllers as well on 16s, 20s and 24s and so far they are working great. I am also looking forward to getting back into the 10 cell saw mono game. You wont be alone for much longer Tyler.

If only we had 2p classes here in Australia I'd happily commit to the mono chase, but on 10s1p I don't think I'll be surpassing anyone any time soon=P Bring on the 12s/400a controller Benjamin

    Mark,

Glad you can play again. I was feeling lonely smoking expensive gear. I am actually looking forward to N2 mono more so than the Q/S/T classes. Something about a 26" mono spinning an itty bitty prop to the moon is just cool.

    Hello Tyler,

according to the photos (thanks for posting these!), the ESC looks really nice. Not that small but definitely smaller and more compact than a big Schulze. Seems as we might have to test a pair of these next year. Especially the test with the 2215/1Y sounds pretty interesting.

The ESC seems to be very well made overall and the price is just remarkable. The only thing I noticed so far from the picture, you may correct me, the soldering job on the motor wires of the last picture of punisher seems as it could be done better.

I've also read your posting about the NEU/Schulze-combo - great to hear that it works successfully so far. Hopefully it will stay like that! Will await further testing results of the big FC!

    Best regards,
    Manuel

    Hi Manuel,

I am not sure if Peter received his like this or if he removed the 6mm female bullits and soldered on wire. Mine came with 6mm female sockets like the Schulze. The esc is definitely smaller than the 40.300wk, it's closer to the 40.160wk series although a little longer. It has HD cooling plates on both sides so it's a little thicker too, but it should package very nicely.

I'll keep everyone posted on additional testing.

I got about the same amount of time from my 16s Fighercat controller before it went bang! on 6s

even worse I got two of the old 6s 300A controllers (not the first batch) that have never been used yet, just programed them up today to run one in a single Cat, not expecting much but at the time when most blow up.I send them back to Fighercat when Ben was there, he supplied me with two more that he benched tested to 300A and said they would be ok
the very early ones may have been more of a problem
I did notice when i was programing them with the box, a setting I have not seen before its an option to set the amps from 20A -100A or unlimited?
Not sure if im right, but I set it to unlimited, it will be running a TP4082 1450kv motor on 6s

the 8s 240A works great still with no isues.
