    Default 62mph but!!!!

Well I hit 62 mph on 6s with the motor I used from my impulse 31 1800kv, 120 esc,
boat ran like a bat out of hell for about 3 min then died in, where else but the middle of the lake, at first I thought I was out of range but NO! not that simple so I paddled out and
got the boat in my raft and opened her up only to see that motor wires burned in half.
the gps said 62 mph flat, I just said wow I hope the esc is ok, so I got her back home and put the esc in my impulse and it's ok. I can't say what the temps were because of the time laps of getting the boat back.
Not sure if the motor is fried but I don't think it is, I took it apart and no visiable damage but the burned thru wires, I'll try and solder some new wire onto the wires that are left and test it out.
? is why did it burn the wires in half ?, to much voltage for the 1800kv motor, to long a wire on the motor ?
It did not unsolder the connection, no cold joint.
batterys are 5000mah 40c-50c burst turnagys.
no problems with the hull as I reinforced it with foam and it's quite stiff.
the esc handled 6s w/o disconnecting the bec, it's also a turnagy.
    ANY THOUGHTS ?

    Too big a prop.

Um, that would be simply too much load and in turn heat. Back off that prop or expect more burnt stuff

    Bummer, hey.

You've not said the size of your prop... ?

You did say the wires burnt/broke, but the connectors did not melt off... plugs tend to go first when too much load.
You asked if your engine wires are too long ..?
If they are long and not supported they can vibrate inducing fatigue and accelerate the burn/break phenomena .

Ive happily run 1518/1800 on 6S ESC120A x442 for hours, no flaw.

You said it ran like hell for 3 minutes.......when messing around with new set ups that are potentially time bombs waiting to go off, you bring the boat in after a lap or two and see whats going on inside the boat (temps).....40,000 Rpm....what did you expect??

Just another learning experence, I wonder if I could solder on some wire to whats left and see if the motor is still good, as I thought a 1800kv motor could handle 6s, I normally stick with a 5s setup.
also I would have figured that the solder joints would have given out first insted of burning the wires in half.
the prop was a m447 cut back to a m446 and spooned / cupped, maybe to much cupping.

Wow................thats alot of prop.................i would have tested it out with an x440 first...............may even be faster with a 440 or a 442.

Your probably right, I'll see if the motor is gonna be ok and try again with a smaller prop, that prop should be ok on the 1390kv motor with 6s in the impulse.
also I'll see about getting another motor for the UL-1 maybe a 2200KV or somthing and stick with 4s and play with props.
