Default any solid motor upgrades for the impulse 31 yet??

ok, i've had this boat for a month or two now and ready to upgrade motor for some real pond bashing fun. I'm looking for a good combo to get this boat in the mid 50's with no issue's. Has anyone got a tried and true set up? i want to beat the pants off my neighbors stock spartan if possible. Any help or advise will help.

Direct... Most of the motors generally available out there (Castle 1415, 1515, Neu's, etc.) will drop in. I designed the motor mount with the slots, and the positioning of the surrounding structure, etc., to be able to accommodate a much larger motor. Also laid out the battery trays to be able to handle a LOT of battery. I think you'll find that there is no issues maintaining CG with any number of motor/battery combos.

If you want REALLY good performance, and a little less runtime (not quite as much a RACE setup)... you can go with the 1900KV motor instead of the 2100... This will turn more prop, and will still get you clearly into the 50's, but will be a little easier on the system and not quite so high-strung...

Thanks for the help, ordering it now. Not into racing yet, just good old pond bashing. Live in Florida so there's a boat load of neighborhood ponds with beginners like myself tearing them up. I just like having the edge like anyone else. I'll you know the outcome of my upgrade.

If you got the 1900KV setup, then I would start with an X645 or an ABC 45x55. You'll also have enough power to make an X447/3 work... Any of those would be quite substantial upgrades in speed.

You ARE going to have to update your ESC as well... I'd suggest a 120A minimum... You can get away with running 4S1P if you have larger packs, but might consider running 4S2P to get the best run-time.

A Castle Creations/Neu water jacket from OSE will fit, diameter-wise, but because of the tab placement on this motor, you might have to see if Steven sells one that is a little shorter than the 1515 sized jacket. it's too long to fit properly as supplied and needs to be shortened.

Lots to consider when doing a motor upgrade, for sure.

I just threw in an aquacraft UL-1 2030 kv motor. Direct replacement, didn't have to change a thing and on M445 prop, got more speed out of it.

That's fine... You could have just as easily put the right prop on it, and gone faster as well... There isn't anything magic about running 2030KV vs running 1800KV, if all the other motor parameters are the same. Just delivering similar power in a different way (RPM vs. Torque)... If you prop the 1800KV motor to have a similar pitch-speed, you'll get similar speeds...

It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. The owner who started this thread wanted to get into "the 50's"... you aren't likely to do that... not for very long, with either of these motors... The motors I recommended he try WILL...

I see the Thunder Power motor is sensored. Will it run without a sensor wire, or does one need to use a car/truck esc with it? Darin, I know you've been boating for a lot longer than me, but ive never seen a sensored marine esc. What esc are you using?

what do you guys think about a Leopard 4082, 1550kv motor with a seaking 180esc?? i have that set up in my crashed spartan and was wondering if would work? My spartan would run mid 50's untill a darn gator came up at last minute. i paniced and turned into the bank instead of away from it. Florida go figure! anyway if it will what prop would you try first??

    I run mine sensor-less with a Hydra 240.

Which motor do you own, and what ESC do you pair with it? I am confused on the options for this one on the OSE site. I am looking for 50mph ish running 4s2p running a M445 prop. Any help would be great, as th motor specs have me all worked up!

I currently run mine stock and get 33.7mph out of it. Scroll up and read Darins first post about the 2100kv motor. That's what I have ordered to drop in along with a sea king 180esc. That should push this boat into the 50s no problem. I'll post my results soon as I get my new stuff put in. If you upgrade yours quicker post your results.

So... I am looking at the Leopard 2150kv 2Y out on OSE.... but can someone with some knowledge clue me in as to what the 2D, 2Y, 3Y designations mean on the spec / model numbers on some of these motors??? Is this just part of the model numbers, or is this a technical variable I need to make consideration of? The Keda motor looks interesting, but I think the Leopard has better operating specs.

Any help or confirmation on this would be appreciated!

    I am running a Tacon 4074 - 2150kv with a Hydra 240 on 4S.
Is the X645 still the prop of choice?
What kind of speeds can I expect?
    Thanks

Which water jacket do you use with either the THPM18A1900 or the THPM18A2100?
