Yep welding! Just used my mig welder on the freshly cut end of a cable, did an absolutely beautiful job, just a quick twist on the belt sander to put a bit of a chamfer on the tip.
Best part is no solder creep down the length of the cable, everything is in the last 3/32" or so, also next to no heat in the cable.
No flux to corrode the inner strands either.
Don't think it took more than 30 seconds total!
