    Default "brushless" cooling fan?

I have an old ffan from a computer or some other device and it is marked as brushless, but it has two wires protruding. if I look closely I can see a small PCB in there. I tried running DC through it but nothing happened. I want this to cool an OR on a hydro.

Probably bad. Is it a 5v or 12v fan, and what batteries did you connect to it?

I connected it to an RX directly, it worked previous and I did not use it before now.

If it is a 12 volt fan it may not work on 5 volts. Connect it to a 12-volt/4S pack.

    I'll try, I don't have a 4S on me but I'll find 12V somewhere. will a 12V power supply work?

Also, 12v computer fans are picky about polarity. Try it wired the other way.

I'll try that, does 5V mean 5v? or can I run it on a 4S NiXX pack? (4.8V)

These things are pretty simple. Every one I have used didn't care about polarity, ran fine in reverse except the fan efficiency wasn't as good. Even my 12 volt fans will run on 7.4 volts. Save yourself the grief and just buy another fan....

I have several of the radioshack 12v fans and they run on up to 18v.....................but probably wont work on less than around 9v.

Fluid, you're showing your age again! Modern pc fans are polarity protected by diodes to only operate in one direction. That is why I suggested checking the polarity. The fan might be fine (no need to buy another).
