Terrible. Friday teased us with temps in the mid-70's and clear skies.

Saturday morning there were CLOUDS!!! And it was COLD. I had to put a jacket on. It must have been close to 55 out!! Then the clouds cleared out and it got HOT. Must of been close to 80!! I got sunburned, and the sun got in my eyes.

Then we got hit by a couple of "Dust Devils" - miniature tornados that blew some chairs over!!

I hope the weather is better next year!!

BTW - thanks Steven for you support. It was greatly appreciated.

You don't know the half of it. Tony had an "incident" with the concrete on Saturday afternoon, late. He spent all Saturday night in his hotel room fixing the boat, so well in fact that you could hardly tell the damage (which was NOT minor).

Amazing comeback and some solid driving on Tony's part!!

I wish I had gotten mine going in time. This was a fun looking class.

Hats off to Tony Heller for a 1st in the OPC SV Tunnel class, Dick Roberts for 1st in SV 27 Mono and Bill Malvey for a 2nd in P mono! Check out some of the names of racers in those flights. Certainly no free lunch in those classes!

The Heater Award is a traveling trophy that we hand out to the racer that can physically and emotionally show that FE is in his blood. He's the racer you want to pit against and the one that other racers start cheering for when he's on the drivers stand. For his thrill of victory in OPC Tunnel after a night of wrenching, repairing and painting, The Heater Award goes to Tony Heller! The guy is hooked. Bad.

His lap counting has improved tremendously and he neglected to count laps on only one occassion that I know of.... j/k, bro!

[ I'm so thrashed right now, after driving 200 miles last night to Kingman AZ to visit a friend, 400 miles to just now arrive in LA, & have to bolt to a commitment in a minute,]; I'll be back in a few hours ! I placed with these set ups:

P-Mono (2nd place): Delta Force Cyber Storm (32") - 10XL - Hydra120 - 4S2P 5,000 25C PolyRC - M447

Open Mono (2nd): Delta Force Sniper (44") - Lehner 3060/10 - Schulze 40.160 - 10S2P 5,000 25C PolyRC - X460/3 (ran a X452/3 also)

SV27 (3rd): stock with GrimRacer 42x55 prop and 4S1P 3700 25C PolyRC packs.

Steve-I'll throw a few out there. There was so much variation in setups (in a good way) and a true testament as to why the current NAMBA rule proposal is a no brainer (my only comment about that).

N-2 Mono- Proulx ran away with the field with a Delta Force 25 and (I think) 1515 .5Y. I was 2nd with a Nemesis 6L and OM 26.

P Mono: Howard had a 1521 powered Titan 33, My Titan 33 had a 2250/8, Pete had a Titan 29 with a 2250/7, Arndt had an 8XL in a 31" Lizard, Proulx had a Delta Force 33 with a 1521. 8 boats total in this class-awesome competition. It took 3 solid rounds to make the podium in this class. P Offshore had the mostly the same boats and motors running, just a lower prop. Dave Arndt was cruising for a 1st place with his rusty Hacker 8XL powered Lizard, but 2 buoy cuts cost him in the end. He had tons of speed.

N-2 Sport had a number of setups. Hot Neu motors, mild Neu motors, Hacker 8S, Nemesis motors, etc, etc. I won this class with a Viper, 1509 Neu (3500 Kv) and an X438. Very mild setup using a Castle 80. Pete wasn't too far behind with a Campbell Shovel and an 8S Hacker.

N-2 Offshore Pete and I run a 7L. He had a N/S 2 and I had a Delta Force. I think he ran an X442, I ran an X640. Proulx ran a Delta Force with a 1515 1Y (not a typo) and an X646 3 blade (not a typo). His original motor crapped out on him so he put his P motor in the boat! Worked good, too, but he grazed a dead boat and got DQ'd in the 1st heat.

The SV 27 power systems, IMO, could easily overpower the SV 27 hulls if you went too big w/the prop. This was evidenced in the LSO class. Proulx ran an OM 26 with an X642 and the SV motor/ESC and ran away from the field. Also, the SV 27 motors overpowered (IMO) the LSH boats as well. DNF's were a problem. But, then again, I DNF'd 1 heat with a 700 motor as well! I'm of the opinion that you can run either a 700 or an SV motor in LSH and be competitive as long as you pay attention to your setup because on LiPo's, both motors can over-power a 24" Sport Hydro. I took (2) 1st places and a DNF in LSH for 2nd place overall. My lipo drain was only 1100-1300 MAH's per heat! SC 700 motor, M445 prop. PIP Shovel.

Had to withdraw my N2 DH shovel which refused to stay on the water.... the 1515 0.5Y was way too much power, even with 1/2 pound of lead in the sponsons and a 1/2 inch airdam between them.

Another testimonial to the effectiveness of length limits.... Sure was fast, though....

All OPC entries were using REK lower units, Kevin and Tony used TS2's, Dick ran a Villain and I used a WOF 28-30. My boat was pulling 2300 mah out of TP5000's on a detongued X642 in the 5 lap heats. Cell temp was about 125F.

no ponds to run in in kingman,az. he must not be a fe boater,unless he makes a 1hr+ drive.

I just dialed her in at 9.5 " from the back CG; prop shaft standard 1/8 " above the board & trimmed @ around 8-10 degrees up angle[at Pat's recommendation.] Used RC Lipos 4900 Poly/Rc 25C pack, used @ 2600 mah at @ 130 deg after 5 laps with Andy Brown X642. Special pre-race preparation involved losing radio signal somehow & ramming concrete bank at full tilt, splintering left front sponson like a croissant blown up with a M80 firecracker, splitting hull on both sides & one side of transom.
