Default Ok verdict in on the prop and speed

After a long day off and many runs of the MG I can report back to those than want to hear
I am running a stock MG motor and esc, I am running a Kinetic offset as of today and I love it! Had most of the wa wa tuned out prior but the offset cleared it all
2-Gens ace 5300mah 2S1P 7.4V 30C Lipo battery packs, 5.5mm bullets on everything motor esc batteries

    PB 1.6 x 2.5 SS 27.5 max speed
    X642 32.8 max speed
    M445 36.8 max speed
All are run with the back of batteries 1.25 inches forward of the rear of stock battery tray
This makes the boat a little light in the front but if I run them all the way forward it is very slow out of the hole
My strut is about 1/8 below the flush level a little lower gives me better take of but we lose out in top speed

I averaged 9.5 minutes run time out of each battery set, this was a all out 9.5 minute run the prop size seemed to make no difference on the total battery time at all
The esc cut out within seconds of each prop
I do not have a temp gauge but nothing seemed overly hot
But after running 3 sets of batteries through with only time to change prop and battery the heat shrink was easy to pull on and off on the esc plugs but able to touch everything

Have 4 Turnigy nano-tech 4500mah 4S 45~90C Lipo Pac and a 447 detonged prop on the way so the next round of test will be done with 4s
Ill add the 447 to the list at the end as unsure if the esc will hold up to the 447 anyone who uses or has used one please reply here with you outcome

27 sounds really slow, even for stock i would think 35 more likely "shrug"

i agree with dana them speeds seem real slow everything standard i was getting 37mph with a grim 42x55 prop, imo i also would not go to the 447 i would slap a m445 ans bump the timing up to 11.25 and if its still not fast enuff go all out bang a leopard 4074 in with a t-180 esc with a m445 and you will see the low to mid fifties no problem. Another thing to do is get a epoxy hatch from tiqueman as the original is not very strong

Your speeds line up pretty well with what I was seeing on my GPS.

i have 2 ways, one is eagletree and the other is a small garmin and they both come out the same speed which was 37.3 mph. the specs for the boat at that time is as follows:- proboat electrics motor and esc timing set at high turnigy nano tech 5000mah 45-90c in 2s2p with a grim 42x55 prop sharpened and balanced

have a 445 but cant change timing other than high or low as im using stock esc and program card I will try it on high to see what diff that makes
strut as stated is about 1/8 below flush with bottom seems best there any higher it cavitates even worse on take off, lower was better for getting going but lowed top speed by about 1-1.5mph

I dont own an MG but 1/8 below sounds too low for any cat. My cat strut is about 4mm above sponson bottoms.

everyone here has said run it flush or just below which is what im doing.I set it on our granit counter and flush up and drop about 1/8 inch
It already has a long spin up time before take off cavitas if i lower it I get the hole shot jump but my top speed is lowered
With the 445 take off is better but if i leave it up with the 642 or the 1.6 x2.5 it runs a long way before coming up to speed

I've got those same batt's & prop but did not sharpen or balence it. Top speed was only 34.? using my garmin (running watch). Wonder if that extra work on the prop would equal 3mph?

Ok changed the timing to high and ran with the strut flush, max speed on the 445 was 37.8
I will try a smaller nylon washer (these are the ones that came from RC planet as pro boat replacements) there are a little bigger than the original though
Also noticed on high timing and low timing both the boat seemed to run 35 ish or so and after a lap or two you could actually hear it almost change gears and run faster
Unsure what this is as to many things changed at once from my first boat.
anyone that has an idea on that let me know please
This is a new hull; rudder, esc and motor the motor and esc were purchased from a member here so maybe an issue I don’t know
I think I will put my old esc and motor in just to eliminate those; the replacement shaft seemed too tight in this new prop strut so I am using my old one
And I still have the pending question to you all, should the flexshaft liner stick out of the top of tube a 1/4 in or should it be cut flush

Any and all comments are appreciated I love this and want to learn more

    Cool

Ditch the nylon washer, totally unnecessary. As long as the gap between the drive dog and the strut is at least 3/16" the washer does nothing but cause drag. It is at least one reason the boat is running a bit slow.

If the boat picked up speed after a couple laps it may be the cells heating up. Older technology cells are very sensitive to temperature with the internal resistance dropping as the cell temperature rises. We used to heat the cells to at least 100*F before we ran them, but many current tech cells do not seem to need the heat to perform well.

    thank for info
I didnt notice it in my first MG but after taking out a jet ski at 35 I needed a new hull had enough parts to make a second one minus hull so used all the new parts to make this one
so ill keep a watch on it to see if i notice it only with those packs
all my batterys are new Gens ace 5300mah 2S1P 7.4V 30C Lipo battery packs, got to love the price. I just got 2 Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 4S 40-90C Lipo Packs today so ill try them in paral
Not to send this thread astray but if i just change my motor to the proboat 1800kv will i see much diff in speeds

love the kinetic hatch pins have flipped a dozen times and not once lost my hatch just use a small piece of tape on front to help the little pin keep it down

personally if you want to see a big jump in performance i would have go all out and got a leo 4074 or something like that rather than the 100 proboat but jmo
