Default impulse 31 2s in series or 4s in paralell

    hi guys,
i am new to the fe world and am picking up an impulse 31 this week and am wondering if there is any advantage to running 2 4s packs in paralell over 2s in series?

the bid advantage is the runtime with two 4s packs in parallel
also you should have more amps available for the system
you could even run cheap 20c 4s 5000mah packs and still do very well for amps and have great runtimes

one 4s pack 14.8 volts, is pretty much the same as two 2s packs 7.4volts x 2(series) = 14.8 volts. If you want really want long run times you get two 14.8 volt packs wired parallel. This means your voltage stays at 14.8 but you get 10,000mah rather than 5,000mah. More gas in the tank. I like this arrangment for bigger mono's, gives you a nice long run time and also weighs down the boat and generally makes it more stable.

    Heck ya bro!
    4s = 14.8V and 2p = 2 parallel
    so 14.8V x 2 in parallel
this boat is ment to run on 4s or 14.8V, but we do know the esc and motor can take 5s or 18.5V

would the extra weight from 2 4s packs not slow the boat down?

If your running the stock setup you don't really need to run 2 4s packs if you wanted you could get some of the new Pro Lite 25c 7800 2s packs from Thunder Power. Or some of the higher c rating models. http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/G6Pro...sBatteries.htm

why do you say we dont need to run 2 4s pack with the stock setup? wouldnt running 2 4s packs give us double the run time and a little more boost?

some of these look like the same questions over and over
the biggest benifit to running 4s2p is you have twice the Mah for twice the runtime
if you want twice the runtime, run two 4s packs, if not needed buy the cheaper 2s packs and have fun
either way this boat will be a blast to run!

Not to sound a hard ass, but the answer is the same as in twice the runtime....
If your looking for minutes or seconds of runtime, only you will be able to determin this by the prop you runt and how wet your setup is and how big your packs are in Mah!
4s 5000mah packs times two is 10,000mah = twice or two times the runtime

ok so i guess since mtwin said he gets 8 mins it would be a fair call at 16 mins but is that to long for the stock esc and motor?
thats what im trying to figure out if the 4s is worth the extra money and would i be able 2 use it to its full power

That's really up to you to decide, no one can decide that for you
most of us run for 4 to 5 min as in that's about as long as races are ran
you can set up the boat wrong and burn things up in less than one minute...
setup right and they will run all day long with no heat issues

I would buy 4s 5000mah 20c or 30c packs as those are fairly cheap and run them parallel
lots of runtime and plenty of amps for the last time

i guess what im trying to figure out is do i buy 4s or 2s i would hate to buy 2 s and then a few weeks later i want 4s, plus i want to be able 2 use them in my cars and trucks also since i already have a 2s and 3s pack i guess i kind of want the 4s for the boat and then i could use them for my trucks also, but i dont want to waste cash on 4s if its not really worth it and if the boat is going to get hot after a while
