OLD OLD shovel nose

I recently picked this up from a local retired college professor,the story I got was that he purchased this from a student who needed money back in 1967..talk about old.. But if anyone has any info on the vintage of this boat and what it is I would greatly appreciate it.

Looks like an Octura White Heat , I think the outdrive was called a Strudder made by Octura. There were plans printed in Popular Mechanics June 1962.

Yep, Octura White Heat from the early 1960s. O&R gasoline motor with recoil starter, speed in the high-20s/low-30s. For that time it was very fast. This model did more to foster early interest in R/C speed boats than any other.

Very cool boat. I had no idea rc-anything was around that long ago. (No offense to the "older people" here). I'm 31 and remember my dad playing with the "Blackfoot" and "Frog" in the mid '80's and just assumed rc came about in the early '80's at the earliest. Its kind of like seeing an old car that survived without be cut up or scrapped.

This is only about 32" long so I dont think its the gaser version,but definitely old..octura hasnt made engines for quite sometime(someone said they quit in the mid 60's?) and yeap its one of the original "strudders" which is typical on most rtr type boats. I had a feeling it was a white heat but it is a 2 point hull,could you imagine running one of these knowing what we know now about radio's and servo's of the time compared to today??

This isnt the first vintage I've ran across, I bought a guys old stuff as he put it..well I couldn never ID one car,although it was completely aluminum and heavy as heck..well I put it on ebay and wound up getting $1300 out of it..come to find out it was one of the very first tether cars ever made..who would have know and the guy was gonna throw it away if I didnt take it

Is there a way to print off that article? I wouldnt mind building one of those boats..imagine it running a nice brushless and lipo setup?
