Default what is optimum prop speed?

What prop speed do you aim for? I see it can be calculated by KV x battery volts.

    With a:

    3000kV x 7.2 V = 21,600 RPM
    3000kV x 10.8 V=32,400 RPM

Which is the better choice for a small mono? If you go with the "too high" 3S battery can you just dial down the ESC so it does not go so high?

I like to aim for high 20K or low 30K myself. Note, if you are talking Lipo, then it is 3.7V per cell, so your 3S would be 11.1V. I forgot who originally posted this chart but has come in handy:

yeah, 3S would be the way to go. if you were talking nickel cells, you could use 7S for 8.4V, and get a little more rpm, or try both. some people do run outside that chart, usually slower but I'm running a 1970kv motor on 5S, oops! hehe
