Default How hot is to hot

What temps should I be getting with the 1800 kv motor. I am running a 180 turnigy and 5 cell switched everything to 5.5 mm bullets and running a m445 prop. Runs good with 4s and 5s buy at the end of my run with the 5s one 5.5mm bullet desoders. I think I saw 118 on esc and like 130 on motor. I might have to run a m440 with the 5s. I am sure somebody can hook me up with some info

motor is a little hot, but nothing crazy. Normally when you increase the voltage and rpm in this you should decrease the prop diameter. On 4s a m445 is fine but I would not run that size prop again on 5s, that fact that you desoldered a 5.5 with that motor is proof she is not happy with the setup. A m640 or a s215 would be good on 5s in my opinion. Decrease the diameter but still have a little pitch.

    What about m440. I didn't see the m640 I saw a m645. Who makes the s215.

Probably a tad slower, but the electronics and connectors will be happier. But you never know, I have, on more than one occasion, found smaller props to push a boat better than a larger or same size w/ more pitch. It just depends if the motor is at its peak and being over worked or not. If its too big and it doesnt have the power to turn it, smaller props, in that case, will run faster. In your case, Im not sure though. Every set up is different.

Ya ok that's what I was wondering thanks. I still haven't seen the m640. And would the m440 be a good prop to try. I am going to get a couple props with the m445 I guess being the biggest I just run 5s sometimes not all the time maybe a prop for 6s but not for sure yet but since I am going to get some props might as well get the ones I need

According to my Octura prop book, they do not make a M640, which is why you cant find it. However, you can make one. Just get an X-640 and de-tongue it. M series props are just factory de-tongued x series. Its one of the simplest mods to do.

Stock motor is not rated at 6s voltage and the rpm will be to high. double dose of failure written all over that one. Like Tiq, don't under-estimate smaller props with a little pitch. Once the motor gets winding out real good the can be really fast. Bigger (prop size) isn't always better. I think the prather s215 s/b and de-tongued or the x640 s/b de-tongued would work wonders on 5s. I though about running 5s today on the stock mc with a s215 s/b/d but ran some different boats instead. the m440 can work fine, but i still bet my money on the other 2 I mentioned.

yea just de-tongue it. Sorry about that, i think we end up with so many modded props we end up thinking the come stock like that lol.... sorry for the confusion.

I'd run the 42x55 grim prop or an x442 with that setup.

Whatever props you end up using just do a short run, check temps often. I've run the AQ 1800kv motors pretty hard and they are tough. I try to keep my temps below 120F.

With temps like those, most likely your problem is cold solder joints which are not strong enough to handle a little heat. What solder are you using, and what wattage iron? What tip on the iron?
