    Default 60.4 MPH New Motley Crew

    I finnaly got my new Motley Crew dialed in at 60.4 and i know she has more in her i had to let off the throttle due to the rough conditions and running out of Lake. This boat runs so much better at high speed than Geico. My Set up:
    180 amp Seaking ESC
    2030KV UL1 Motor
    (2) 3S 40C Venom lipo's
    X645 Octura Prop shapened and balanced
    Dual water pick up for individual cooling of ESC and motor through 5mm water lines.

    I will run her again this weekend and try and get some pictures or video. Great Boat!

    Wow that's awesome. I'm currently running that setup on my geico minus the prop. What do you think makes it handle the speed better than the geico.

    Has to be the bottom. The boat runs so much flatter, does not handle the rough water as good as Geico but at 60MPH it was set up so nice through small chop. Geico carries the nose with that much power i just installed trim tabs on Geico but have not ran her yet she has big power in her.

    You're not expecting the UL-1 motor to last to long...are you?

    50k unloaded rpm on a UL1 motor (on any motor for that matter), shouldn't take to long before

    Not a matter of if blows, it's a matter of when.... Not a reliable setup IMHO
    Bearings should be just about shot, depending how many times you have ran it.

    This is sometimes why I cringe reading threads like this, some new guy is gonna try this setup and be pissed when his $$$ goes up in smoke... JMHO

    Just noticed that as well.... This is a not a good setup....Hate to be so blunt, but there is no way to sugar coat it. This boat is a time bomb, I would HATE to see the amp draw, that 180 might get taking out when the motor blows as well.

    Not trying to jump on the OP in a harsh manner, but like I mentioned above some new guy is going to copy this setup "chasing speed" and poof.

    I ran this set up all weekend, 4 days straight. used 10 awg wire for everything, 5mm bullets, and a thrust bearing between the colletor and motor. motor and esc are not even hot or the wire after runs. it was very reliable for me all weekend, but i am always up to learn, what motor recomendations would you experts suggest?

    I do not believe that the motor wasn't hot.
    If you want to run 6s, get a motor in the 1400-1600 kv range.

    Why would you run a lower KV motor? That would mean turning less rpm right? Do these motors have voltage ratings? Is a UL1 2030 good with 5S?

    Cold, Warm, Hot all different meanings to different people... Grab yourself a temp gun (a must have tool)....

    +1, agree with rummy on the kv range... Me myself not a fan of pushing esc's to there voltage limit, been done many times with many mixed results. Did you happen to dis-able the bec at all?

    I think a Leopard 3674 1400kv with a Seaking 80HV could be a real nice setup.... JMO

    You have a target RPM range, which is in the link I sent a few post up. You can't run crazy high rpm, that ul1 motor bearing are rated at 50,000 rpm which you exceeded running the voltage that you did, when you get high rpms your amp loads sky rocket which means you would have to go way smaller with the props. High voltage, low kv or Lower voltage higher kv... High kv + High voltage = smoke...

    No the 2030 is not a good 5s motor it's a 4s motor. Your rpms need to be upper 20,000 to lower 30,000 unloaded for a single motor boat.

    So the Aquacraft 1800KV motor that came with the Motley Crew, according to your chart that motor should be fine on 5S correct? 33,300 RPM in the green, but what about the voltage, will that motor handle 18.5 volts? Great chart i am getting a better understanding of things. Just trying to figure out how you can tell how much voltage each motor can handle now.

    Yup you got it know. That could work as a good 5s motor and that esc (180) will be much more reliable at 5s (dis-connect the bec)... Each motor will have a spec sheet http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-aqug7002 thats the 1800kv spec sheet. So yes the motor can take 5s and also the rpm's are acceptable. With the increase in rpm on that motor you will need to decrease the prop size. So that x645 you have may work fine on the 1800kv motor on 4s, but on 5s you want to go smaller like a m640 or a prather s215 something like that. You have to make sure all that voltage, amp draw, rpm are all happy together...JMHO

    Certain motors (like the CC 1515 2200kv) can get you in trouble just from following the specs though, because yes the motor can take 6s voltage BUT the rpms are too high for boating. So in a car appliation that would work fine due to gearing, but in a direct drive boat that would not work very well at all. You have to watch your unloaded rpm and also make sure the motor can take the voltage.

    Take your time read and learn. Boating is much more fun when your not blowing stuff up lol...

    * Diesel's word of advice; don't slap in crazy voltage to speed chase... Spending lot's of $$$ on burnt stuff just because your chasing a speed # is not fun. Just my 2 cents....

    I ran an X645 on my MC this past weekend it's a whole lot of prop on 4s with the stock motor even. Temps on motor were 116 esc 89 and 4s pack was 86 after only a 1 minute run. I've run some aggressive props on my FE30 with the AQ 1800KV on 4s and it ran much cooler than on the MC.

    I'd hate to see you burn your new boat up on 6s. I used a UL-1 2030kv on the FE30 on 4s and temps with a cut down x648 46.1mm were over 135 after just 3 short laps which was much less than a minute run and on 4s I wouldn't wanna see 6s motor temps on a cat..

    Definatley not gonna last long on that setup, but look on the bright side at least your having fun with yours!! I assume you upgraded the flexcable already??

    I for one would love to see a video of this one running 6s on that motor
    6s on a UL-1 motor with a X645 prop only getting 60mph

    a bigger concern than the bearings would be the very thin guage wire coming from the motor. the insulation on the wires melts rather easily. then just kiss the motor and speed control goodbye. dont ask me how i know. it happened to me twice on 4s.
