    Default proboat 1/8 vs u1 1/1 ANYONE?

ok, when u look at both the proboat 1/8 scale hull and the real life u1 hull,

is there a difference in their shape? if so, what are they?
If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

Proboat actually got it wrong. Formula won the championship in 2006 with the U5 T6 hull and won the right to the designation U1 the following year. However, Formula put the U1 designation on a completely different (and older) hull design. The 2006 championship boat that Proboat says it modelled is actually the T5 hull, and has been through it's iterations as Llumar, Elam and Bud. The actual 2006 Formula championship boat remained the U5 hull in 2007.

The designation of U-1, along with all other Unlimited numbers are carried by the team based on how they finish in the series, U numbers are not any specific hull. In 2006, the U-7 won the APBA National High Point Series. The U-7 is the former T5 of Hull.

The T6 hull is from June of 2000. The T5 hull is from April of 1998. (Completion of original build dates, Budweiser "born on" dates) Each boat's hull is different in many ways. Each year many new individual designs are tried in different areas on the hull (sponsons mostly, but also belly surface area and canoes.) Sometimes, with many weeks off in between races, while engines and gear boxes are rebuilt or given required maintenance, hull work is being done. Sometimes excluding or reverting back to old designs or adding new designs/tests. It is fair to say that any give hull may change several times with in a season, every season. For example, the 2011 U-57 hull had 12 micro steps in the dull on the bottom left side. So a boat built in 1998 will have all the current modifications and won't resemble the original design. Most Budweiser hull were not ever sold. They were continually modified and then as new hulls were built, old ones became backups and marketing displays (some were both).

The ProBoat hull is loosely based off the Budweiser team, not any specific hull. The Miss Budweiser logos on the ProBoat models are based off the 2000-2003 seasons livery. ProBoat did wonderful job on the model, however it is not truly to "scale". The most notable reason it can not be called a scale model is because the hulls of Unlimited Hydroplanes are not symmetrical. Unlimited Hydroplanes of course turn left on a race course. Their outside, or right sponson is considerably larger in deck and hull size. The airfoils beside the cockpit where the deck and main portion of the hull begins are quite often at different starting points. Additionally the hulls are all each uniquely different in shape, size, hull shape, deck, and so on. Dramatically different from each other upon close inspection. The canoes at the back sides of the hull, near the transom, are similar to the 2000-2001 Unlimited hulls. However, the deck above the canoes have been considerably exaggerated. None of the Unlimiteds have had such dramatic 'wings' above the canoes.

ProBoat 1/8 and 1/12 hulls are very different from each other. Although both are very different from the actual real life hulls, they both are similar to the real thing in many different ways. The UL-1 hull from AquaCraft is also a very good model but is not to "scale". Obviously these boats handle completely different from each other because of their hull designs and power. I recommend both!
