    Default Upgrading Motor & ESC

I just bought the Leopard 3674 Boat Motor 1300KV and I was looking for some ESC recommendations.
The motor pulls 56A Maximum, can I just get the 120A ESC or is it necessary to go to the 180 or 240. I'm just not sure of the benefits of going to such a high Amp Rated ESC. I only plan on running 6S in my Spartan if that makes a difference.

    Any would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

That motors waay to small for the spartan a 4082 would be much better.

Ok if I get the 4082 what KV Rating should I get if the stock Traxxas one is 1600 and which ESC do you recommend?

From what i read seems their maybe a clearance issues meaning a 40mm motor with a jacket MAY not fit. That motor with the kv you selected should work just fine. For esc's I would get a HV esc for the 6s runs. I don't like running esc's to their max voltage, that's just me. A seaking 80HV may work nicely! You could have a nice reliable setup, may not be "50mph" but you should be able to enjoy your boat without any heat issues. I agree a 540xl style motor is not the BEST choice, but maybe the best option with the way the boat is designed. A 540xl 4 pole leopard would be a be upgrade over the stocker and should bolt right in without any mods. Stock water jacket may also work. Hell the stock esc might work as well!

Problem with going big like a leopard 4082 is the motor is just too much for a plastic hull. I don't think the hull is gonna survive the wattage and torque that leopard will put out.

*Since you already have the motor on order and the stock jacket and esc, try it with everything stock just the motor swap to your new leopard and see what happens. That's what I would try if it was my boat.* Might save you some $$$$$

I will give that 80HV ESC a try and see what happens. Im selling the stock stuff, I dont even want to deal with it.
I should get enough for the stock motor and esc to cover the new power plant. Thats all i want is a somewhat fast reliable cool runing boat. At full speed this hull gets very squirly suff o it will be interesting to see someone try push into the 60's.

I will run all the new stuff and let you know how it goes.
    Thanks again

That 4 pole motor will do alot better than the stock 2 pole junker with its too high of a kv. Try it out if you already bought it, you can most likely run an x442. I bet it comes in alot cooler and doesnt trip the thermal cutoff.............. The 120a ESC is plenty for it on 6s.

What about a proboat bj26 motor on 6s should take the hull to high 40's

Im going to try the Leopard Motor and Sea King ESC first and see how she runs.
I heard Castle is working on a System for the Spartan. Apparently they have been getting a few emails regarding an upgrade....

The Leopard would be a better fit for this boat, the BJ motor may do may not I don't know, but she is a little small on would be working very hard. Unless he is racing in a spec class and needs that motor (I don't race , don't know the all the rules and not my intended direction) I would go a different route

So I have read all the post above. But I think I still might (not sure yet) want the Leopard 4082 1500Kv and I'll use one of my Turnigy 180 marine esc's to run it.
I am not worried about clearance issue. It looks like the motor sits high enough from the bottom of the hull. but maybe the sides could be an issue. not sure i'll look and measure tonight when i get home. if its the sides I dont mind doing some trimming.

if it would go in and the hull holds up to the torque. what would the benefits be over the leopard LBP3674-B/5D 1300Kv motor? just more torque & rpm?
Also I was wondering about running on 14.8v or will i have to stick with 22.2v for the best speed?

yep, the 4082 will have more torque over the same kv 3674 motor

I would pick 6s and stay with that

edit.. forgot the traxxas was a 1600kv thought it was a 1700kv..i need sleep

Well screw it I just ordered the 4082 1500Kv and jacket to match. It should squeeze in there. The jacket is 47mm diameter (1.85 in) and there is about 2+in of clearance around the sides where the motor mounts in the hull. Its either going to go or blow damn it

Anyone want to buy a lightly used traxxas motor and esc? :D
