I was thinking the same thing after I did a search on tower. The link from tower is listed under speed controllers. Not for brushless motors. When you look for "Castle" products there is nothing for the 2038 motor under brushless motors. I think its too new myself right now but I am more then sure there could very well be a discount off their web site. The biggest question is who wants to build a 12S system to fully utilize the power of the motor. 12S speedos are on the top end for my pocket book although the MGM 400 is probably my next HV speedo for 2011.

i agree that 12s is the way to get the most out of this in a boat application..the rpm limit will determine the fate of this motor in a boat..

I have all the stuff for a 12S boat laying around anyway, such as a 2230, 200A-HV, lipos, hull and and hardware and so on...
So far it has not been time to build, there is a bunch of boats in my workshop ready to be build. If someone have some sparetime to sell please leave me a message...

I`ll get the motor one way or another anyway

Besides: Castle Creations 1/5 Mamba XL 34V Extreme

If tthis motor was rated at 34Vdc, you could not really run it on 10S safely but, this was an esc....

I heard or saw a pic way back of a Leopard that was 115mm long or so...

I bet Leopard will have one sooner or later. Maybe Hobby King will make it pop up since they just started selling 1/5 scale Baja buggies.

$240.00 is a hell of a deal for that much motor , and 750 - 780 KV is absolutely in the ball park for a 10 - 12 cell motor . i don't know what the castle dude was thinking

Leopards site indicates a possibility of a 4092 motor.

John, now it makes sense with all the Leopard bashing..
and who knows, maybe down the block from them or around the corner is the company who makes Leopard
same performance as CC motors, but cheaper

Perhaps. I just see a lot of posts about leopard manufacturing the castle motors, so I thought Patrick's post may be of interest here. Honestly, I hadn't even read the replies until I saw your post.

this is the motor for the new 5th scale conversion for the Baja 5B
Castle seems a little slow on how this will work for big FE. I was told (by Castle) it won't work for big FE, but I think it's more than perfect!

great 10s motor, and I want to build a gas Hydro, or gas Rigger FE

Guys...call me from now on. I've been out the past month for the birth of my son, but will be back in after the 1st of the year. I'm "the boat guy". I've known for MONTHS that these will be a GREAT motor for large FE boats, and have been discussing it with my sponsored drivers. The kv, size, and weight are perfect. I'll be trying one on 8s first, then 10s when it warms up a bit in a 43" mono, and a 40" hydro. I'll be running Hydra ICE 160's in both so I can datalog and check amps, volts, watts, etc. We'll DEFINITELY need a cooling jacket for this one!

    Pre-order it looks like...

It will be fun trying these when the water is soft here again.

What will be intereating is how the 1717 will compare to the Turnigy 600HK-1400 O/R motor I ran in a Promise 29" cat on 5S2P, x450 D/T thinned prop. I was doing 50mph or better last year in a club Open Cat class. They were 4 year old 25C PolyRc cells.
Motor ran pretty cool at about 120F-130F on a a 60F day. The rest was about the same or less for esc.

I know this is more Kv, 180 to be exact. My first Castle motor.

I might just grab one of those 2028's for future consideration.

    HK1400: 3250 watts, 110amps max $30

Castle 1717-1580Kv: 120 amps no watt specs. $70... on sale mind you.

    Should be interesting.

wish it was you I talked with at Castle, cuz the guy I talked with sounded like he knew so much more than me, and this motor in no way would work in big FE on 8s or 10s... what he told me is " it's to much kv for boats"
but I want to try one in this on 8s
