epoxy or c/a?????

i have herd people using epoxy or c/a glue to combine there hulls.
witch is better and easier to work with?
im building a scat cat and wanted to know witch is better before i start combining the hull.(build up will be posted around christmas time)

I used a medium CA glue, If you put enough one and don't use accelerator it works fine,
I have done 3 scat cats and it has worked for every one of them.

Taylor what brand of ca are you using? Also what is the setup time like. I would like to use a single part bonding agent as long as it has some work time. I love the DC but its expensive and messy to use all the time.

I use medium ( purple bottle) insta-cure

Zap CA sucks for what you are doing.

I'm not the biggest fan of using CA AT ALL on my Abs hulls.
CA make the abs brittle and very prone to chipping and cracking. I know quite a few people who have given up on Abs hulls simply because of cracking and splitting from CA. Also CA has a very inconsistent grip on abs, the previous owner of my OM26 ca'd velcro down. Parts of it would come off like it wasn't there and some parts had to be grinded off. I know Randy Naylor says to use CA but i am quite against CA on abs(as i said at the start).
5min epoxy(well any epoxy for that matter) doesn't like sticking to abs much either.
For Abs to abs applications(like joining hulls and adding support) i use IPS weld-on #16 for joining acrylic(i was told by abs fabricators this is the stuff to use, just be careful with how much you use). And for abs to anything else i use selly's urethane bond(works ok just don't sand it).

well who CA's down velcro??
that is a very porous surface and will just have to be chipped off.
There is a technique to gluing a hull
You first put glue on the main surfase you are dealing with, then put it to the deck rub it around pull it apart. Blow on it for a second to let it get tacky then push it together in the finial places.

I have never heard about it chipping. with accelerator or kicker it will chip.

Prep work when bonding ABS is a must imo. I find with any smooth surface you need to ruff it to get good adhesion and a permanent hold. Using to much ca will cause some of the issues I see mentioned above also.

I have loads of pictures from building my scat cats.
but none show me gluing. I didn't think it was that important.

Yes lightly sand the ABS with a 200-400 grit paper

The ips weld-on very slightly melts the two abs parts together which ends up making them like one piece.
I have actually made a motor mount for my 700 out of abs laminated together with IPS weld-on which works brilliantly(and is tough as nails).
The previous owner of the boat had his motor mount stuck down with JB weld and it came off at a SAW event just before he taped up, which proves my point that epoxy doesn't stick well to abs.

I am no expert but I have built A LOT of planes from both Balsa and composit but I was new to ABS. I really wanted to use epoxy but I did some research on Google and it does not sound like epoxy works well with ABS so I stuck with what Randy recommended and used CA. I have to say after my initial issues with it not providing a complete seal (some thick CA cured that) I have been very happy. I have run my OM29 just under 100 times in open water (ie. waves and chop) and it is still holding up great even after a couple impacts with the seabed....woops. I use JET CA's most of the time. I included a pic of the boat as well as what the nose looked like after it hit the bottom of the sea.
