    Default SV27 setup and speed

Before I start let me say I know this should have stared at the begining (box stock boat), but I just got my GPS.

Hull: blue printed (not complete but close), all hardware rerigged and siliconed.
    Prop: grimracer 42x55 two blade.
Batteries: orien 7.2v V-MAX 3300mah 3" fwd of stock to set C/G at 8" fwd of transom.
Water condition: moderate chop and wind blowing.
    Motor: ammo 36-50 2300kv
    ESC: stock
Drive trim: -1 or 0 (somewhere inbetween)
    Tab position: 0

This setup is pretty rock solid and went 35.4mph (good race set up in my opinion)

I moved the batteries back to the stock position and blew the boat over backwards with no increase in speed.

So I went to the otherside of the lake where there was cover from the wind providing smoother water. Batteries in stock position and same setup as above. The boat was pretty uncontrollable, I wish a had someone with a video camera there because I had a nice 20-25 foot prop ride (only the prop in the water, boat completely dry). However, the top speed was only 34.5mph

I will be testing other props and also the stock motor this weekend. I will also be changing the set up a bit. plus I have some new 4200mah batteries to run.

I am a little disapointed with the speed, but all my testing so far was just going off of other boats and guessing, so now the real testing can begin.

    Thanks, JL

Avanti we run an ammo 2600 with a grim 45x68 we clocked it at 47.7 mph before she started the tail dance. But we only drag race also.

I would have to say that if your batteries are at all questionable, that's a good place to start...

However, about 37 or so is what I would expect from an NiMH powered SV27 with that prop... Even though that motor has a greater KV than the stock motor, it does NOT have the torque, so you will lose something there...

You should be able to make it faster, however... What are your temps??

I ran mine with 4S1P 3300mah PolyRC 20C Lipos with an Octura X646 prop and otherwise bone stock and GPS'd it at 43mph... that's with the STOCK motor... But then, 4S Lipos have a higher loaded voltage that 12-cells, so there is a lot to be gained there...

I did not check temps this was just a quick shake down run today to see where I was for a starting point. but the batteries and motor were pretty warm to the touch.

I'm hoping to touch 40mph on the 4200mah
I know my prop needs work too.
I also want to make sure my drive strut is @ 0' with the keel.
my current setup is great for stability but I know I can get more speed out of it and then go back to this set up for racing.

    thanks for the input Darin

no set up changes were made I ran with the trinity 4200mah mounted 3"s fwd of stock the boat went 37.1mph but was very unstable with the extra power. 40+ is right there I just have to tweak my setup and prop.

Here is a short vid and a pic of one of my boats. Preped the boat and did a few mods, like cooling and drive stuff and added a M445 prop. If anyone is interested in the boat PM me its a new boat.

shifted the orien 3300s fwd 3.5" from stock got 37.7mph on a 40x52/3 grim
shifted the trinity 4200s 4.5" fwd of stock and got 42.1mph before it took a dunk and I had to grab the fishing pole.

I'm sure I can break 45 this weekend.

There not my secrets... Grim Racer wrote up a very good set up page. I just do most of his things and a few of my own. I pull everything, Zpoxy wood, stand and inside seem on hull, I silicone all the hardware and adjust it. Mostly from grims page, slightly positive on the strut and same for the tabs. I like to add a full legnth tefon insert in the drive tube, A balaced/sharpened X642 or M445. OSE water jacket, open the water pickup a little, bigger ID tubing, correctly setting the radio. The hull can only handle so much speed, you cant win a race upside down. A great set of batterys are a good place to start. Here is grims page http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_47...tm.htm#4752309

right now I am tuning for top speed, not a race set up.
Later I will tune for racing, as I found out that with better batteries my current race setup is crap.

if you want a very fast super vee set up the batt. in 4S2P configuration, the stock speed controller can handle it no problem. but hold on get ready for an insane ride!

I'm going to have one more go at it this weekend but I don't think 45 is in my current set up (the battery and motor maybe) the prop needs work and weight placement need work.

well I threw on the port turn fin and it help with stability a bit but it scrubbed speed and the boat would not turn left to save it's life.

41.8mph (40x52/3grim 7.2 4200trinities) tonight that is all for this weekend I am still happy even though I did not get 45mph. I have to rethink my set up and get a few more props.

What does it mean to blueprint the hull? And by rerigged you mean different running gear or just remounted it? If it was just remounted why and where? I'm new to rc boats so sorry if these sound like ignorent questions.

How odd. Mine turns left just fine. It was OK without the port fin, and much better after I added it.

I am curious as well. When you all are trying to squeeze every last MPH out o your SVs is it all SAW running or are you trying to get the fastest oval runs you can??

I am oriented towards oval racing, so for me SAW speed is fine, but going fast around an oval is more than simple SAW speed.

blue printing is sanding the hull flat so there are no imperfections like dips and bumps.
rerigged with same hardware using silicone and adjusting thing to the right position. the factory was a little sloppy on my trim tabs (which need to be replaced with better ones anyway, but I have not got them yet).

My opinion is still not made up on the usefulness of the port trim tab. I made some more changes tonight and hopefully I will get to test it tomorrow.

my friends BJ26 just went 42.9mph so I have so extra incentive to get my set up dialed in.

Bill-socal... I am trying to get the boat dialed in for top speed right now, trying to get some stability as well

I want a stable 38-42 for oval racing ,but I'm not there yet.

Avanti why not make your own tabs...I made some for my outboard Supervee...I work flawlessly...The factory ones seems like you'd crack the transom trying to adjust them.

The factory ones aren't adjustable are they? Thats why they sell adjustable upgrade ones.

now that obrien has his BJ26 dialed in the SV27 needs some serious retooling and rigging to keep up. I also have a lot of work to do on the prop. he has my by 2 mph right now so I have my work cut out for me, plus I have yet to get the boat to lay down.

I have some great ideas to put to the test (might share them later, I want to test them first).
