    That's bada$$!

Darin you should have convinced proboat to go twin JetCats on the MG lol , would be the first $10k+ RTR lol... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YIWRqWIc38&NR=1

Not sure if this is the same boat, but this thing moves pretty good. I wish I had money for a turbine. I work at the airport so fuel would be cheap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d-J3Tl_cnQ

Well, Darin, you would need to go twins, then you will have yourself a goal... Thanks for posting, that was better breakfast than a donut!

That is cool, I am wondering what is the thrust to weight ratio to get something like that to work? Works much better than I would have thought

Well, Darin, do you know we have a JetCat-authorized repair guy here? His cube is about 50' from my office door. We could hook you up.

    If you were here :)

And we could take care of your need for airplanes at the same time!

It's still propelled by props - they're just driven by the PTO from a turbine. With the speed it can spin them, I think balancing would be even MORE important.

Still wondering what kind of thrust to weight ratio this thing has. That turbine thrust works much better than I thought it would. Tried to find some info the other night, but it is hard to nail down which turbine pushes how hard. From what I saw, 15 to 20 lbs of thrust is in the range.

what does that cat weigh in at? I am thinking a fun boat plus recovery craft, just on a smaller scale.

One the note of $21k, no thanks. I could buy a decent used boat for that much and actually ride in it. Or add to my $200 stamp collection.....

They don't run on thrust. The exhaust goes vertical. The engines have use a PTO and gearbox to extract the power and drive a regular prop.

did you watch the vid, Andy? The thrust clearly isn't going vert.

Yeah man. Look at the video with the jet on top, not mounted inside the boat. Puts out some pretty impressive thrust for an airboat!

Default OK, an unrelated question then.

OK, I get it. They run off of a PTO to a water prop. That is fine.

But on a purely unrelated topic, does anyone know what kind of thrust that motor would produce in that boat if it was just using thrust to drive the boat? And what kind of estimate that boat might weigh in at with a turbine if it was set up to use thrust to drive it as opposed to the PTO driven water prop?

Thank you for any who can answer my unrelated question.

Like the boat in the video that uses thrust to move it, I've seen claims of 25lbs of thrust from a small motor like this
and they cost $2,500 on up

    Default Thank you

thank you brushless. So I would guess a cat like that and a turbine would probably weigh in at 25 lbs or more. so maybe a thrust to weight ratio of 1:1 to 2:3?

I will have to ask around on another forum and see if anyone knows what some of the prop driven airboats do.

I am thinking of a retrieval craft powered by a fan that has enough power to get itself into trouble when not rescuing other boats!

    Hmm......

the motor are fairly light, so I don't know what the total weight of a 50-60" cat with one turbine would be like
but the RC jets do weight a lot and they do hit 200mph+

Why are they exhausting it vertically out of the deck? Look at the very first picture in Diesel's post.
