    Default Castle 1717

Was wondering if the Castle 1717 motors would be a good candidate for an 8s setup? Will it handle that voltage?
    ? WHAT RULES?

good saw motor.... but wow 1580kv x 8s = 53,088 rpm.... little over the top... in fact 6s on the 1717 is probably crazy enough...lol....

Would it push a 51" FG hydro on 6s?

8s, NO. They are rated at 45,000 max rpm. 51" is too big for that motor asa well. You'd more than likely need a 2230.

No.... Honestly I think the biggest hull this would push would be a 40" hydro at the very very max..... I was considering buying a 34" sprintcat and putting one of my 1717's in it...

I have a Brand New In box... only bench tested with 5.5mm bullets installed Scorpion 4035/800kv outrunner ... these are great motors... would sell for $150 shipped.... great 8s and 10s motor... this is the motor they some are using to race in the 1/7 shovelnose and 1/8 scale hydros... Max Continuous Power 4200 watts......... $150 shipped... these have been proven to be good motors... unlike the screamer... even though the screamer is cool to look at...lol...

    I bought it here:

I get 46,768 for that motor on 8s. I am using 3.7v/cell to figure it out, maybe you are using 4.2v??? I know they charge to 4.2v/cell but using 3.7v will get you a more realistic estimate. Nothing maintains 4.2v/cell at full load/rpm no matter how good your batteries are.

Either way, 8s is still to much. I think Castle only reccomends 6s even when used in cars.

I am building an '85 Dominos Pizza 1/8th scale with 1717 on 5s2p right now. I think on this hull it will be a good setup. It will require a Castle Ice 200a or a Hydra 240a lv, but I see no reason why this motor is not big enough. Granted, this hull is lighter and narrower than most 1/8th scales so its a good candidate. If you compare the 1717 against a 1527, you will see why I think its going to be plenty. If I could only get a water cooler........Here are some pics:

Mike I want one of these boats from you!!!!! in fact I want this one..lol....and I don't want to build it.... can you pm me some details on what it would cost me to get a boat like this built for me shipped to me.... and all.... would like to be able to mount my power system in it and go.... thinking the same type of power as I have a couple 1717's...... I wouldn't need it right away as winter is coming fast so you would have plenty of time to build her.... after getting that Woodstuff tunnel from you I want another of your pristine built boats!!!

I will be glad to work on one for you over the winter. I want to finish this one tho. I have the T6 bud framing kit being cut right now, so that will be another hull I cannot wait to get started on. Damn, that is 3 scales I will be working on for myself!!!

    Cool

I If you compare the 1717 against a 1527, you will see why I think its going to be plenty.
I compared the two and the 1717 is closer to the 1521, not the 1527. The 1527 is 0.6" longer and 10% heavier, and it has better magents and higher build quality. The 1717 is rated for just 120 amps while the 1527s can handle well over 150 amps continuous. At least mine and my fellow club members' can.

An 1/8th scale on just 5S? That's really a "SuperSaver Class". Most are running 8S to 10S in these hulls. I hope it works for you with only half the power others are using....

All the above aside, that looks to be a wonderful build! With the right power it should be a sight to see.

Fluid, Actually this hull is my super saver build! I wanted to see how well a boat this size could do on 5s2p with the 1717. I picked the Dominos because of its smaller size. I have 2 other 1/8th scales, both fitted with 1527 Neu's. The executone is 6s2p, 1527 1Y with Castle Ice 200a controller, and the PT U10 Smokin joes will be 10s1p, 1527 1.5Y with a controller I don't have yet! The Dominos is strickly for fun, and probably in the 50's, the other boats will be the serious contenders...along with the T6 Bud that I will be building soon from my framing kits.

Executone (still awaiting driver/ stacks/ etc.) wood hull from my laser kits:

And the Smokin Joes Glass Phil Thomas hull:

    .
    Just my opinion
the CC1520 is similar to the Neu 1521
and the CC1717 has a bigger can and being it is only rated to 120amps could very well mean it can swing the same size prop as the 1527 with less amps (more torque)
and we have found out that the CC motors for the price compare very well to their Neu brothers

Brushless55, I feel the same way as I have a 1521, 1527, 1717 and 1520 to compare, and judging what my 1518 castle can do, there is no doubt in my mind the bigger castles are no pushover.

    Thanks Johnf!
