Not sure about how long my runtime was. Think it may have been a little shorter than what I said last. Probable more like 15 min. or so. But still a pretty fun lunch time. Water cooling the VXL ESC and placing the original motor cooling coil on helps keep every thing cooled down to around 100°F except the battery. So maybe time for a big 50c battery.

I used a Velineon system in my Rio. Works awesome, used a fan for the ESC, and used the stock motor coil, never barely got warm.... A touch warmer on 3s, but it was always rolling on the 3s, so i stuck to 2s.
But, everything is back to stock, and its now my rescue boat.
I have learned one thing from this.... Car stuff is for cars, and boat stuff is for boats. Period. It doesnt pay to mix and match, MOST times, and i say most, it doesnt work out.
Just my 2 cents worth, thats all.

Is it even worth putting brushless in a rio ep?

I wouldn't go and spent a bunch of $ for it, but if you can get something really cheap, or have something lying around, it really wakes it up, and it's a lot of fun too.
The velineon system is pretty crazy, so I've ordered a couple of cheap items from hong kong. Not goin to mix car and boat stuff anymore, doesn't work to well.

depends what you mean by "worth" . The Rio comes with cheap electronics, so it will be worth while to upgrade. Why not go with something more efficient, lipo friendly and to top it off increased speed. I put around 65 bucks in a brushless system and i don't regret it one bit.
