Over the past few years, we've been able to integrate a few FE classes during Dist 19 gas/nitro events. Not much, and it's really only when the Dist 19 racing is in the Phoenix area.
However, there's never combined racing. And I've never pushed it. I was just happy to get some FE classes on the schedule.
This past weekend, there was a District race in Tempe and we were able to get OPC on the schedule for Saturday. Man, it was hot. Very hot. A gal fainted on the drivers stand at about 9:30 am.
The pond is nice, but has a concrete barrier. Tough for FE OPC's to race on, especially since we followed the Classic Thunder's. Poor choice on my part in selecting which FE's to run at this event. Paul Winegarner, Pat McDonald, Gary Rose and myself just couldn't put any FE magic on the water that day. It was pure survival. However, my boys did do some great racing in the kids class, so at least their FE boats had some success!
Well, I packed up and didn't go back on Sunday do to other family commitments.
It turns out that Paul and Gary went back out there on Sunday, and Paul got his P-Limited Hydro entered to race in the Nitro A-Hydro class.
That's a first for our District. They do allow FE/Nitro/Gas to run in the "Open" class, but to allow an FE boat in a nitro heat??? Never done before.
So, not only did Paul run the first FE boat in a Nitro class, he won it! And got thrown in the lake.
I'm sure there's a photo of it, and I'll find it and post it! Great job, Paul!
