Default how do the Leopard motors stack up against feiago and castle neu ?

im connsidering getting a new motor for my genesis cat. at the moment it is running a feiago 8XL on 4sp2 and x637 and x640 with good speeds and handeling BUT the motor gets way warmer then i like it to be.

so how do the Leopard 4074 2200 KV stack up against the castle\neu 1515/1518 and feiago 580 6L

not realy looking for much more speed (atleast not now) for this boat but a better sport running setup were things dont

    apritiate input :)

My opinion is that the Leopard is quite a bit better than the Feigao, and a bit below the Neu. Its 4 poles are better than the Feigaos 2 and it has Neo magnets............which i dont believe the Feigao has. The bearings in the Leopard may be a bit higher quality than the Feigao has as well.

    Cool

The Feigao 580 does have "neo" magnets just like the rest, but the word "neo" has little to do with quality or strength. Feigao's website states their motors are good to 150*C ( 300*F) but we know from experience that is not accurate for their magnets.

To state that four poles is somehow better than two two poles is somewhat misleading. Two-pole motors of high quality are very powerful and hold numerous speed records - the highest in fact. They have different power curves but can have comparable power output to 4-, 6-, 8- and more pole motors. Design and build quality are more important than the number of poles a motor has.

I've never owned a Leopard, but have owned many of the other two. I'd like to try a Leopard one day.

i have and i still own quite a few feiagos and they have been good to me in the past. but for now i need something thats is not on the edge like the 8XL is in that cat.
i heard good things about the castle\neu motors and i heard some good about the Leopard. the feiago 580 i heard good and bad so i dont know about that one.

the stats on the 8XL is up to 1000W with cooling. dont know about the castle\ney 1515. leopart is 1500 W and the feiago is 1800W but i am realy unsertan as to how much i can trust those numbers.

Things to remember is your 8xl is smaller than the 74 series leopard and 15 series neu/castle. Castle/Neus are only $60 now.

yes i know its smaller. thats why im looking at the larger motors to make them work with a easyer load.
with a simmular KV but larger they should giv about the same speed or a little more but without the heat isshue.

yes i know. i read the tread in the swapshop how they stuffed steven and the rest of the dealers.

I have 3 differnt Leopard motors and I have been impressed with them so far. I have ran a Feiago 8XL, Neu 1515-1y, and Leopard 4074/2200kv in the same boat and the Leopard and Neu motors are very comparable, the Feigao is not. The 8XL ran A LOT hotter and Ive had nothing but problems with Feigaos personally (allthough they work fine for many people). The Leopard actually ran the coolest out of all of them. Im not suggesting the leopard is a better motor than the Neu. That would be a hefty claim and frankly it is yet to be proven over the long run how these (Leopard) motors hold up. I would have no problem saying that they are superior to Feigao though.

The place with the largest number in stock is HiModel... and the biggest choice. They also added the jackets recently.

IMHO, you should buy from the people who support us. I'm willing to pay a few bucks more to keep sponsors like OSE in business. With out their support our hobby would suffer.

Could be that they're way overstocked, or improved versions are on their way to the market ???

You are 100% right. And I did buy my 1717 from Steve but he was out of stock on the 1518 and 1520 I wanted so CC got those bux from me. But he certainly is going to get some more once the water jackets come in!

Do the Leopard, Castles and Feigaos have the same bolt spacing on the motor mounts?

Feigao and Leopard have the same spacing, but different number of bolts: 4 for the Feigao, 6 for the Leopard.
