Once the lower unit is setup properly, there is room on the steering shaft at the back to move the steering arm up to get the cables off of the cover.
I've raced mine all season with the cables rubbing on the cover, however. Not a big deal. It's just how these systems work sometimes.
With the servo in the back, motor adjustments affect the angle on the steering arms a lot more. Also, it's harder to get the boat to balance properly, and not as easy to isolate the main electronics from the battery tray and keep them dry.
