Could someone give me a sense of what these kits cost? Just a price range for an 1/8 scale boat. Do these kits come with any instructions? Is there someowhere to look to see how to do the build? Just thinking over maybe doing one of these.

The kits range from $145-160 for the framing kits. For instructions, I recommend people get the Newton Marine.com plans for the boat you are wanting, especially if you are new to building an 1/8th scale. They will be well worth the money. Mike

If you are new to building from plans, get Don Mock's videos at http://www.rcunlimiteds.org/ (under For Sale). They are VHS only, so you might have to pull that old unit out of the closet. However, these are great videos.

Mike, So how do I go about ordering a kit my wallet is itching to spend.
I'm looking towards the 171-D. But am really liking the the Peters and May U-37 (164-A), when do you think this kit will be ready for purchase?
For us newbie builders could you let us know what is included in the kit?
I'm guessing it's just the framing, no skins and no cowling.
    And is Paypal ok?

Waterrotter, The 171-D kit is available now. It costs $150 plus shipping, and judging by your Location, ON, you are in Ontario right? If so, you can add $25 towards shipping. I accept paypal, with the 3% fee, or you can mail me a check. Just let me know which way you want to pay, and I will PM you my info. Thanks, Mike

Also, these are just the framing kits. You will need to get your own sheeting and cowling.

BTW: 126-A does make the 79-81 Squire Shop. The builder (Norm Berg) was commissioned by both boat camps to make the same hull. The Squire boat was wood and aluminum while the Circus boat used wood, aluminum and a lot of Hexcel. The Squire was commissioned first but the Circus was completed first.

Interesting side note is that according to Berg, Bernie Little almost got the 2nd hull (not Circus). Bernie was impressed by the new Atlas hull and wanted a new boat himself. He asked Berg to build him one but didn't want to wait since the Squire was already started. Little went to Ron Jones and the rest is history.

Any guess on what the cost of a Norm Berg built hull was in 1979?

(Sorry Mike for the side note. I am a Circus Circus Hydro Nut and have researched a lot of their history).

    Cost was $73,000

Well, got in a few more new frame kits today, so I wanted to share. I am really happy with the results of these. The 8501 '85 Bud is Bigbirds kit (packed and ready for you Mike) and the 7931 '85 Dominos/ '79 Squire/ '80 Circus is for Blueblaster. I will be building the '85 Dominos myself very soon. Take a look at the toy tabs (Dan Kramer's idea, Thanks Dan!) on the 7931 framing. I really want to start incorporating that on future frames. It really made the frame square up well and helped everything stay together while dry fitting. Enjoy! Mike
