    Default slow start

just got my new SV27r yesterday to replace my brushless converted shockwave26. Took it to the lake and gave it a go. It's really slow to start up, but when it gets going, its good. Any reason's why its slow to get going? I thought that it would have been because the rear is so heavy cuz once the boat gains speed and levels out, its good.

I tried putting the batteries in the middle in front of the motor as far forward as I can, and it helped a little, but still not what I expected.

I'm running with 2 X Turnigy 2S 5000mah 30C Lipos and everything else is stock.

When you say "slow to start", are you using the stock prop and is the boat cavitating (or ventilating) the prop a lot??

The stock plastic prop does that. You can help it out a bit by cleaning it up with some light sanding, but you'll really want to get a nice Grim 42x55 or X440/3 on there.

Another thing that REALLY helps the SV27 is to block sand the back portion of the hull. At a minimum, scuff the bottom paint with some 320 or 400-grit wet-dry paper. If you can get the bottom VERY flat and the trailing edges VERY sharp, it'll be faster.

However, just getting a good prop on there would be the place to start.

    yeah stock prop.
when I give it full throttle from a stand still, I hear it spin and it slowly moves forward until it picks up speed, levels the boat out then gets good throttle response when its got some speed to it.

I'll go buy a proper prop and see it it helps. thanks for teh reply.

There are lots of options for props that work, but a solid choice to start with is the Grim 42x55, or an Octura X440/3. Those are both good Sport running props. I think there is a Grim series prop that is very similiar to the X440/3 (40x53/3???), but I can't remember for sure. I'm sure someone else here will chime in.

i use a 40 x 52/3 on my ul-1. i realize its a different boat but still. i get a bit of cavitation at first but not as much as the stock prop. i also have an octura x440/2 blade prop that gets it out of the water real fast. almost no cavitation but lacks a little bit in speed.

Like Darin said Grim 42x55, hands down best prop I have run with my SV. Getting on plane is not an issue, boat wants to jump out of the water when I hit the throttle. The 40x52/3 you have isn't a bad prop either. It doesn't get on plane as quick as the 42x55 does though.

Try a Grim L40x57 on your UL-1. Set the depth to about 1 1/8" or so and hold on because it should be running very high 40s if not low 50s depending on water conditions.

Darin I think the grim 40x52/3 and x440/3 are almost identical.

Yup what Wizard said. The prop will not work on a SV. Its a lifting prop designed for hydros and riggers and will not work on a mono, that's why their is a "L" in the title. I would take it back asap and get something new before you even open the box and start to sharpen and balance it.

Here's info from Grim himself (the guy who designed the SV and who's name is all over that prop you bought.) Happy Boating

    Its a lifting propeller.

The 42X55 is a MUCH better choice.
