Default Turnigy/ Hobbywing 180a on 6s2p..anyone doing it?

Well, I would like to know if anyone is doing the hobbywing 180a ESC on 6s, and what setups, speeds, props, etc. I am thinking about giving it a try with a 1527 1Y 1250kv on 6s2p with the Executone 1/8th scale hull I am building right now. I have the motor and controller already. I have been running the Neu/Castle 2200kv 1515 1Y and hobbywing 180a ESC on 5s1p all day long in my Woodstuff 32" hull doing 65mph in heat trim, so it got me thinking could this controller hold up to a 1527? Any info would be great! Thanks, Mike

    Mike,
Sailr was using the Turnigy 180A probably same as hobbywing in his 36" Sprintcat on 6s2p, motor was a Feigao580L 10L worked ok until his motor burned up. I have a 1527 1Y, 6s2p in my 36" Team Believer Cat using a Hydra 240 LV and have had no problems.

on 6S2P you will discover the thermal cutoff does work well. !
180A continuous is a bit ambitious with a small heatsink
I ran 1521/1Y on 6S1P but logged at 170ish it would thermal.
    cc/etti/yge or equiv do not.

What Etti are you saying would do ok?

Sounds like the castle 240lv is tougher than I thought. I run it 5s2p on my 36", 9.5lb woodstuff 36" tunnel, with 1518 1Y Castle/ Neu, doing 68mph in heat trim. I didn't know people ran the LV on 6s! Maybe I should just get another 240lv CC. What speeds are you guys getting from your boats?

Actually there are two of us using the Hydra 240LV on 6s2p, the other boat is a Sprintcat. Our speeds are 55+ in race water we all use x447/3 blade props.

the video says it all.. :) :) :)
    80mph = 130+kmh

make sure you use a connect resistor before you ZAP the esc.. capacitor failure an issue with cc ..I use 52ohm1/2W to drop initial current before the main batt plug connected.

    I wouldn't trust the 240 lv on 6s. Too many horror stories. Why not just get a swordfish 240hv? I ran a 240lv on 5s2p with a 1527 1.5d in a 34" sprintcat. I ran hot on a x455, but never failed. Myself, I wouldnt do 6s on it.

I had two of the Swordfish 240hv controller, one failed, and the other got so hot I was afraid to use it. I sent them back, but never heard what the problem with them was. I ran them on 5s2p, so I don't know what the deal was. Mike

    Mike, a quick ps ..

in Au our ruleset allows only 1P..

    that vid was 6S1P ...
    The 6S1P allowed 225A cont = 5000W which exceeds your 1527 by 2KW
    Peaks of 450 = 10,000W = something's toasting.

    and you plan 6S2P .. wow factor 110% !

"Wow, this is good to know. What prop, and what speed are you getting?"

Its a "sport boat", no racing or maxxed out high speed runs, so i am running an X445 and GPS'd it at 36....................It has never been warm to the touch..........I am 100% satisfied with the motor and my setup.

    I do. my setup:

    Delta Force Cyber Storm Hull
    HobbyWing Seaking 180A
    Medusa 36-80 - 1600KV
    LiPo 6S 2P 22.2V 8000mAh total
    Prop: Octura X537-3, Prather 220

    Speed: 93km/h

After 5 minutes of full throttle (except at corners), nothing is more than slightly warm. Motor about 45°C, ESC...... cold actually, my finger does tell me it's a few degrees higher than ambient, and that's it.

And from what I remember about the CC240 LV warranty Castle wont replace it on anything over 4S. Unless they have changed their tune in the last year.

Castle do cover buyers with warranty up to 6S.
We've made claims on 6S without problem these past few years
Id be surprised if that were different for ' local ' users.

    Swordfish240HV is good,
    Buy one here at ose.
