Yeah.. Im thinking single drive and basic. If your going to put the $$$ into a larger size twin FE cat, do it w/ a hull a bit more suited for it, and that is proven to handle it.

I'm still contemplating the Avenger hull. I think the 4mm drive 70mm stingers I have would work...

But really don't know. After seeing the 57" Shark Hull, 44 might be too big and might require more motor.

I posted a thread looking for hull recommendations to match the hardware/electronics.

OK. This guy has enough room for a much larger can and room for some long packs. How about a setup with two 10s long packs?

Just need the HV ESC and a motor w/5mm shaft & 540 mounting holes. Might even be able to change the mount...

Any suggestions on ESC/Motor? (the cheap route, this is a Genesis, not an HPR). =)

"cheap route" was your request. May i throw this out there.............

    120a turnigy ESC - $59 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ter_Cooled_ESC

I've been eyeing this motor, surely at 36x88mm it will move the boat much better than the 540 8XL thats in it stock. You would probably want to run it on 6s though....that would put you right around 30k.

I ran mine for the 4th time today... I cant get enough of this cool boat. Even at 30 its quite enjoyable. But, changes are coming. I think Im going to throw an Etti 150 I have layin around in it and hit it on 4S. I started getting it ready for the swap out tonight but ran out of bullets.

Mine's unwrapped an on the shelf. Neat looking boat. I think I'm going to keep this one "freshwater only" and own the local pond with it. It's about 1/2 mile long and surrounded by trees, so is almost flat even on a really windy day.

What I'd like to do, since this boat has the room, is experiment with an HV setup. HK has the 10s packs and it looks like they will fit in this boat. Since there is quite a bit of extra room in the hull for a larger can motor, this is a good time to work with larger voltage motors!

Since I'm not familiar with HV, I'm looking for suggestions on an inexpensive ESC/Motor setup that will work with 10s, and I can couple it up to a 4mm drive cable relatively easy.

As for speed, I'm thinking I can get 60mph on 10s2p for about 15 minutes. That's the pie in the sky to shoot for. Probably will be much faster...

I am a bit concerned about the extra weight in the boat from 10s and a heavier motor, but it looks long enough to handle it and should be a rocket when done.

What motor/ESC would work on 10s?

I just want to experiment with HV setups a little. The hull seems to be buoyant enough to hold the weight of 10s2p.

    I think a Neu 1521 1.5Y would work nicely on 10s. 1050kv x 37v(nominal) = 38,850 rpms.

    Or, a 1527 1.5Y.......... 850kv x 37v = 31,450 rpms. You could swing a big prop this way.

Is there a generic equivalent? Want to keep the budget low on this one. I have an 80a HV, however not sure how to match a motor with it. 8s or 10s. I can figure out the Kv, just not familiar with motor sizing.

Run one of these:https://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=14671 Great price by the way. I ran this motor on 5s2p in my sprintcat on a x455 and it ran mid sixties! Tons of power! You could run 6s2p with a smaller prop as well.

Hell yeah. Done! I can break the 10s pack in half!

I'm hoping that a Turnigy 180 is enough to power it, if not, I'm open to suggestions!

Guess I'm going to miss out on toying with the HV setups just yet.

These are the only two "cheap" options i can suggest.

Comments on above motor on HK:
"I purchase this motor for my 4.5'UH EDF. wiht 10s lipo it draws 65A. 2100W.
I suspect about heating but after 30sec full throttle. temp only get warm. I think this motor will survive this settings. and very good performance compare with low price."

"I use this motor with a water jacket and 12S lipos in my boat. Works great.
I m waiting for more factory made water jackets for us boat modellers!!! "

Guess the KD36 would do OK on 8s? Didn't see a volt max on it. It would be a good cheap motor to play with and can use a regular 36mm water jacket.

If I'm thinking correctly, an 80HV on 10s is much like a 160 on 5s in regards to final output power? My understanding is that a higher volt system will draw less amps, allowing a 10s 4500mah pack to outlast a similarly setup 5s 4500mah pack.

Not really...........the amps that the motor draws X voltage = output wattage. The ESC doesnt dictate the amperage............the motor does. The esc needs to be able to handle the amp draw. But higher voltage with less amp draw will ultimately run cooler............cool is the key in my opinion.

    Example
motor pulling 100 amps on 16 volts = 1600 watts
lower kv motor pulling 60 amps on 30 volts = 1800 watts

The second scenario pulls less amperage and will run cooler.

And the Turnigy 180 only handles up to 6S.... I think the 80HV is a little more, 12 I think??? so keep that in mind as well.

Yeah, that's what I was going for. The thought is to volt up amp down and run cooler longer.

    Just some experimentation.

Think that 1100kv KD36-74 will run on 8s?
