    Smile P-1 mono motor upgrades?

    I have a p-1 mono on order and am already obsessing on a new powerplant for it. I don't know much about outrunners except they seem to have more torque than inrunners and are for the most part air cooled. I was thinking of using the new ammo 36-88-1280 motor with a turnigy/seaking 120 on 6s. Approx. 28000 unloaded rpms. Maybe an m445 or 545? Any opinions??

    You know I was eyeing up this boat and was just thinking if I did buy it what would I think about changing the power too and I was thinking maybe like a turnigy 180amp or a swordfish 120 or spring for the 240 and like a feigao 580 9l or 10l. Be about 29400 - 31,600 unloaded. I don't have any experience with outrunners, but would love too see how they run compared too the in.

    Well I bought the ammo 36-88-1280, feigao xl cooling jacket (hope it fits the ammo!) a turnigy 120 and a pair of turnigy 5000mah, 3s,35c lipos to run in series for the p-1. I hope it all hooks up easily. It looks like the p-1 has lots of room inside. I also have a nice octura m445 & m545 which I hope will work well with this setup. The one question I have is can I use the esc's BEC on 6s?? Ive heard guys reccomend using an rx pack on high voltage setups, but I'm not sure why.

    Well your safest bet would be to run a CC BEC, I use to run one in my SV and loved it. Just solder in the bec plug it into the batt slot of your rx and disconnect the red wire from your esc and that eliminates any concern you would have, plus you won't have a rx pack. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...le-bec&cat=136

    Dont use the bec. Run a rx pack and pull the red wire!

    You know a lot of stuff Rum, so your responses I pay close attention too soo with that being said why do you think it's better to run the rx pack?

    Sounds good, but why not use the esc's B.E.C. does the higher voltage setups impede performance or hurt the speed control in some way?

    I know you asked 10 days ago but I just got here.

    Most ESC's turn the excess voltage into heat and may start causing problems/failures.

    I dont know a ton about boats but I know about BEC's, it's more preference if you'd rather pull the red RX wire and run either a RX pack or a BEC.
    If the BEC you have is like a Castle programable then maybe a RX pack would be easier than reprograming the BEC for different voltage Lipos ?

    Once a certain voltage 4s,5s,6s etc is decided on for the application I would rather a BEC that delivers a solid 6volts to the RX and go w/that. One less battery to charge ?
