What Spektrum Transmitter to choose

Hey everyone,

I am going with my first 2.4GHz radio for my Mystic build. I was undecided on what brand untill I found a brand new MR3000 Spektrum marine reciever for $50.00 so I guess that makes my choice of brand Spektrum. I'm going to run it in a Carbon/Kevlar hull so I figured the dual antena's of the MR3000 would help.
Now I need a Transmitter.
I'm looking at either the DX3.0 Pro or DX3S with Telemetry.
I know I can't use the telemetry with the MR3000 but does anyone use it with their boats?
What about the 3rd channel?
Just looking for some suggestions and feedback so I can make the right choice.

The marine receiver is only compatible with the DX2S and DX3S

From the Spektrum web site:

"Compatible Surface Transmitters: the new DX3S (SPM3140), DX2S (SPM2120), DX3E (SPM3160), the new DX2.0 (SPM20220), and the new DX3.0 (SPM20320). Earlier versions of the DX3S, DX2.0, and DX3.0 are not compatible with this receiver. Please look for the Marine logo on the back of your transmitter and check the transmitter part number for compatibility. "

It's not as "weird" as the fact that their "Racing" Radio (DX3R) doesn't support telemetry either...

We're always expanding everything, Jim! To be fair, though, we've only been shipping the other 3 transmitters with Marine compatibility for about a month. We just need to get the word out better.

Why am I not surprised!???

I've actually grown VERY fond of the DX3S interface... I tried to use my DX3R the other day, and was surprised at how accustomed to the DX3S I had become...

Both are great radios, however... but with the DX3S being Marine compatible... the choice is clear!

I have a DX3R and I just picked up a DX3S from the swap shop here. I like them both. I hope they give the 3R the ability to upgrade to be compatible to the MR3000 receiver as well then I have a back up!

Me to, its seems crazy that they are upgrading older dx3s tx's to marine, but not Dx3r. I wish I bought the cheaper one.

When I need to do testing... I use my EagleTree... I've never tried to use real-time telem, but based on what it takes to drive a raceboat safely and fast, I'm not sure I have time to be looking down at readings on a display screen. Too busy driving the boat.

I have a small netbook laptop that I take to the races/practice, and I just download the data after a run, look it over, and move on...

Maybe one of these days I'll have to try the onboard telem and see what it's like... perhaps my opinion will change...

We make a stand-alone telemetry module, too - SPM1305 (SPM1320 for just the handheld). This lets you have a pitman who watches the numbers for you rather than having him try to look over your shoulder.

i have a later version dx3s and love the telemetry especialy when setting up a new boat or making changes.
mainly just the temp sensor and voltage supplie,there is no need to look at the display as they both give a audio alert, wich are both user adjustable.
the next thing i would like to see is pack voltage.
on a side note i had some trouble recantly with a reciever (user error) contacted horizon and they sorted it out, fantastic customer service
