The MaxAmp stuff is 20 to 30C correct? I am going to be testing the 12 to 16c packs @ 1/2 the price from BattlePack.

Here is some info on the SV27 using LiPo's.

The stock ESC dont have a low volt cut off. You need one. The Lipo Shield will do http://www.dimensionengineering.com/LipoShield.htm

You need a cell balacer and a charger capable of Lipo's. There are a few balacers all do the same thing.

The batterys, there are tons. Some cheap ones should work, they did in my SV see vid. They can be wired in many ways to achieve real long run times and double the C rating. but two 7.4 3600 12/16c lipo's worked. There good for 43 amps with 57 amp bursts. I honestly dont know what the SV pulls its like asking the forbidden question and I dont have a meter that records it.

Sorry about my driving in the video, I almost hit the dock and was trying to avoid the Alge bloom blobs. GPS her at 31.5 with the CF45.

I ran the packs the same exact way you run your normal packs. Just one pack on each side connected the same way as normal packs.

If you wanted to double the run time and double the C rating what you can do is put 2 packs together per side and run those in parrellel then connect the two that are together in series. You actuall have 4 batterys then. That gives you 14.8 to the esc and 7200MAH at 12/16c.

I DID NOT do any reserch on what equipment is needed to protect the ESC and the cells etc. Might very well be the same as I stated in the las post I did not do homework yet.

Bottom line...I like the Lipo's BUT my new matched IB3600's ran 3 MPH faster in the same boat. I still want to do more testing.

So you run these packs in series. Ok..I assume you didn't test the voltage post run? How about the temps? Even to the toutch? No LVC either right?

The temp on the packs after the timed run were 110-112. Voltage on the packs? if you mean before the run they were 7.5 or so. I dont know what else your asking. These are test runs. My first test I consider a success, no one really knows and if they do there not telling. I can tell you they worked, they recharged and worked again. I am unprotected right now till the LiPo shield comes, reason for the timed runs. As far a balacing, its needs to be done just about every charge, that unit is coming with the LiPo shield. Other then telling you what the battery can handle and what I think the boat draws and the fact they worked seeming fine and the MRC 977 charges them very nice and the boat feels light and agile to drive... that all I got. My thoughts on this subject...

By running light the boat stays on top of the water and is keeping the RPM's high, voltage high and current low. At 110 degrees, I can't believe that your damaging these packs, your not running them that low in capacity or they would be hotter.

    However, the LVC is needed.

Parallel would be a good option as well to give them even longer life.

I don't think that will be the case if I run the 14,8 volt packs @ close to 400gs though hu?

Just found out the info on the Lipo Sheild IF you wanted to run a long long time in the SV you can go with 4 packs of lipos. If you had 4 of BattlePacks 7.4v 4000 10/12c ($29.95) packs. Individually there rated for basically 40 amps continuois with 48 amp bursts(borderline for the SV). If you put 2 of these packs in parallel you got 7.4v 8000mah 10/12c setups now. Good for 80 amps continiuos and 96 amp bursts. You then put them in series for the 14.8 to the ESC.

The LiPo Shield WILL work on this setup.

The 7.4 3600mah 12/16c gives you 43 amp continious with 57 amp bursts, a little higher then the 4000mah packs if you want to go with just the 2 packs. This is what I did for now to see how they worked, I will prob go with 2 in parallel knowing the LiPo shield will work for this set up. Then I will have two 7.4v 7200 12/16c packs per side giving me 86amp continious with 115amp bursts per side then putting in series to get the 14.8v to the ESC.

I just got the LiPo shield and the cell balancer. The LiPo shield is a tiny little thing, its about the size of a dime. The cell balancer is a sky holic and has me a little baffled. Guess I have to read the directions....

It's the Sky Holic balacer guard. Do I actually charge threw this thing? The plug that goes into the battery tap is understandable. I just wasnt sure if you charge threw it or what.

Just ordered my first set. I went with the 7.4 3600mah packs. With the 16c rating I am going to test them in series starting on a factory prop. Look for the data starting next weekend.

Isnt that LiPo shied small... What balacer did you get? Let me know where you hook up your LiPo shield battery leads. Not sure if I want to put the whole unit in the radio box or outside it. Where to hook the battery leadys easily. Use a conector of some type or solder it to the deans. desisions desisions

You thing you have it tuff. I have to wire in the dpr and protect it from moisture. I am considering a second water proof box...and having it double fo a gps mount. All my stuff should be here his week. With any luck I'll be on the water collecting data saturday evening or sunday.

    What balacer did you get?
    PolyQuest Li-poly Balancer/Overcharge protector
    Features :

    1. Cell balancing and Overcharge protection : High performance micro processor protects overcharging and controls cell balancing. Continuously discharge overcharged cells and charge undercharged cells. Automatically stops charging when each cell is fully charged.

    2. Cell status indicators : The status of each cell is indicated by LED. High voltage cells: Flashing red LED, Low voltage cells : LED Off

    3. Err/Check Indicator : 3 connectors are provided with balancer for 2Cell, 3Cell and 4Cell Li-Poly. Sold Green means correct connector and correct Li-Poly pack is used. Green LED flashed when unmatched connector is used. For example, Err/Check Led flashes when 2S connector is used for 3S Li-Poly

    How to use:

    1. Use supplied connectors(Adaptor) for 2S, 3S and 4S Li-Poly. Directly connect 5S Li-Poly to balancer.

    2. Err/Check LED goes off when charging is in progress

    3. When charging is in progress, cell indicator for each cell is continuously blinking or stay off. Blinking LED means high voltage cell and turned off LED means low voltage cell.

    4. Err/Check LED turns on when charge is done.

Err/Check indicator : Green LED blinks on the following situation

    1. Any one of the cell in the Pack is overcharged (Voltage is over 4.25 Volts)

    2. Any one of the cell in the Pack is dead (Voltage is under 2.5Volts)

    3. When input voltage to balancer is over 22V

I asked about the balacer I got yesterday. Its a Sky-Holic 2-4 cell Balancer guard. I was a little confused but its simple as pie to use. Plug the LiPo packs tap into the balacer and plug the balacer into the charger and charge as normal. The balancer just does its thing during the charge and when charge is over just leave the balancer connected to the tap and when the green lights stop and the red conditioned light is on there done.

I just wasnt sure if you actually charged threw it or not but you do.
