    Question Bodywork on sv27 hull?

Sup guys, im tryin to figure out the best way to paint my hull. I took a hit in a race
and have resin the inside with cloth around the hole, and marine bondo the outside, and sand it down to finish.
Now i cant find the same color, which is the orange one, so am forced to sand the entire hull and paint an available color localy. my delema is,
is there some kind of gellcoat paint of some sort or,
do i have to sand off the gellcoat off the stock hull,
or will the new paint stick well to the hull with some rough sanding,
or can i find the matching pait,
    what should i do?

My aim is to use this hull in races, and if it gets beat up, i dont mind doing glassing, sanding, and painting the fixed area. I just want it to look decent everytime i fix the crashes, without re-doing the whole hull everytime.
    Thanks guys. ALOHA

From what I see that primer coat looks good(how many coats are there)!

If you want to use spray paint use Krylon Fusion, but if you want to use something different I would use ASE(All Surface Enamel)Its an acrylic latex paint super flexible and you can make just about any color you want, the only down side to it is you have to use a spay gun!!f you want to use that product I could send you a data sheet, well now that I think about it i can send you a data sheet on the krylon fusion paint too!!

Look at the sig I work for Sherwin-Williams!Ill be more than happy to help you with finding the right paint for the SV send me a p.m

    Tunda,
Did you Guys pickup the hull for Kimo? I installed the spectrum RX today in the llumar and epoxied the wood under the gas tank, It was starting to get soggy.
Also, installed a fuel filter and new futaba servo for the throttle. Next run I am going to experiment with lead weights to minimize blow over coming out of the turns. Shoots

Do you spay a clear coat then go over it with a gel coat? Or just primer, paint and gel coat?

No gel coat on this boat yet..... just a black base coat, the red/blue mid coat then the clear coat. 3coats of the first and second stage, and 4-5 of the clear, alittle more where i put the seal tape though. I want to airbrush something then try gelcoat over that to make it hard. I hear it comes in a spray can...amazing.
    what you got?

The boat i'm working on is an sv 27 like yours. I wanted to make it look mean and a little different. I think i'm going with blood red and black and the deck a firey skull made of vinyl. Just wanted to know the process especially the gel coat. Where do you get the gel coat in a can?

I wanted to try a sprayer but i need figure out that whole set up.

Krylon fusion was reccomended earlier but not to many colors to choose from.

    Boat looks good!

Krylon fusion is better for plastic, it should work good on plastic hulls like those cheap NQD hulls. I heard it dont work so good on fiberglass hulls or on top of paints like enamel, laquer or gelcoat. tried it over laquer primer and after drieing
I could peel it off with my fingernail.
The gel coat in a can, a friend told me about that, at the local marine shop. still haven't tryed it yet. the blood red sounds good that was my first choice. post the progress here if you like.ALOHA

    Thanks Wiplash!

The right color is hard to find...

I want to get the boat broke in and i'll start to paint after a few mods are done and so on. I would like to find something like exhaust, or something to make it look beefy and tuff! Will see were the process takes me and what i actually end up doing.

    I defenetly let you know!
