    Default catamaran power plant

Here are some question for expert... I know there are some around here :D

I'm thinking (only thinking for the time being!!!) of a new toy, my choice would go for a DrifterL.

I've been looking all around for different setup but most of the consistent info are in German and I don't understand anything of this language... SpeakenglishOrDie!

I don't really want to spend a fortune as this is just for sport, let's say 40 to 50 mph max would be fantastic (yeah I know 40 is different than 50 and requires different power!!!)

My idea was to start with 2 Feigao 10XL, probably geared @ 1,2:1 under 16cells max for the begining (in order to keep cheap non-HV ESC's already in stock), this would give a maximum of:
    16cells*1.2V*66Amp*2motors = 2400Watts

I might go for higher voltage in the future if I go for 6S Lipo's and HV ESC's and then have a total power of 2800Watts

The most consistent setup I found is the 40" Admiral from Robby76 witch is exactly the same as I described

Considering that the Drifter is certainly a much better hull than the Admiral (if not, why does it costs that much?), does it sound interresting, correct, or away from reallity?

Robys power system is a solid setup. His hull is really the Kyosho hull witch is much better. You can save money on gear drives and go with the big KB45s. I think the 8XL is close to the Feogao 10XL and has the torque & rpm you need. I have read the Drifter isent the best handeling hull. I have never drivin one so I cant be sure. I chose the Jolly cat because ToysPort are known for quality. My other top choices where the M1 Super Cat & the Maritimo. I am not an expert how ever, but I do own a big cat & it seems to have a decent setup in it.
    Good luck.

The KB45 will need atleast an 120 amp controller. They have more torque but are amp hogs that use from 70 to 100 amps. The Fiegao 1200kv motor used from 45 to 70 amps and the KB45 1200kv uses from 70 to 100 amps. It also reminds me of the size and weight difference in a 700sc and an 800 motor. It shouldn't be used in all applications.

    ED I run the KB8XL , Hex 120, S-BEC, X440-3 on a .78 wire drive. Powered by 4S-2P 25c PollyQuest EX @ 3300Mah. In 2 weeks the Hextronic 120 will be replaced with a Hydra 120.

who is manufacturing/selling this nice toy?
when you say 2x8XL, I guess they are Feigao8XL not KB45 8XL? so that similar to Robby76's setup

to SJFE, I had the chance to compare the Admiral with the Kyosho and there are no difference between these two hulls, the important thing is that Robby76 made important modification, according to what he told me (at least what I understood!) he sharpened edges of the hull and "added step to the steps", so for sure his hull is better than the stock Admiral

How many amp does your setup draw on the Joly Cat?

Thanks to all of you guys, everything you brough to me, make me feel confident, and I'm going as soon as possible to gear my 8XL on my mono and investigate before I mod my cat, and certainly invest in a top performance hull, but chances are that I'll use twin 8xl with higher gear ratio

the Kyosho Lambroghini Cat C-1 hull is thick ABS with a hardening resin sprayed inside and out from the factory. the ebay Admiral is very thin ABS covered with decals.
as i built my " Sea Terror " C-1, even though the hull felt tough, i still fiberglassed all the inside adding stiffener rods here and there along with
some 1/8 inch ply where needed and modified the steps.
i could have powered it with one motor but went with two. it's awesome. i went up from an 80 amp esc to 120 amp esc and gained 8 mph w/ 16 cells each motor on geared transmission 1:2 - 1 . after last roll over, one 120 amp esc did not recover so am using the 80 amps. YES you can tell the difference in speed from 38 to 44 mph on this 42 inch 13 pound cat.
i would like to build another and go direct drive with the KB45 motors. the Fiegos are drawing 67 amps w/ X447 L&R. don't know how the KBs would do amp wise since Reddywatts cat performs real good.

I get your point Robby76, for sure the C-1 is a much better hull than the Admiral.
Would you use two KB or only one? one can deliver more than 3000watt!!!

i am HOOKED on twin drives since i built my sea terror. sure it cost twice the $$$$$ but being at the lake and throttling up seeing the water churn spray and watching the rooster tails take hold hull slapping the waves and you can hear it........priceless.

new motors 4_5&6 blade props are coming out and being tested along with affordable escs. not into lipos yet.

what a sport this is cat hydro rigger mono drag boat

i ran nitro hydros in the '80s, my electric introduction started here at O S E
    thank you steve.

well, I'm not sure dual drive really cost twice, single requires bigger motor (bit more expensive) and bigger ESC (also a bit more expensive), stronger drive line, what really afraids me is that a single drive will also require more amp so Lipo's are almost necessary, and they also cost more than Nimh
My mono's single drive 8XL+ESC (drive , rudder, motor mount... are home made) costed me less than 70euro (100$), sure it's just good enough for fun run... but in my budget
