And THEN... it was suggested that the sponsons wouldn't quite work for what I wanted to use the hull for, so I went to work making a new set... Formed from a solid block of Balsa, with carbon plates as mounting surfaces for removable/replaceable ride-pads, then wrapped with 1.5oz glass cloth and epoxy... Here they are just about finished...

Weight on these, with paint... 1.1oz each...

Looking good thus far Darin. From the shape of those sponsons I guess we'll be seeing you in the middle of April.

    Darin,

All said and done. Your build was well documented and quite interesting to watch.

Thank you for the knowledge and entertainment.

    Continued success!

Cheers for your documentation, I am building a balsa hydro with a 1/64 ply cladding currently and it will be interesting to see the rigidity that the ply "applys" once laminated to the balsa hull.. can I ask what you are using to bond the ply to the balsa?
Those sponsooons are so long for a minute i thought you were building 3 riggers at once...

Ply was laminated to the balsa core using epoxy resin.

That's funny... the whole boat is only about 22" long...
