Still haven't had a chance to get her wet yet, been away on holiday for a few days, but last night I put the decals on to finish the semi scale look.
I finally found a picture of this particular Rio Roses in an old boat mag and a local sign shop made them up for $20.
She looks a little bit plain, but I guess Reggie was going through an un-flamboyant stage when he raced this boat. ( Hard to imagine I know !)
Maybe this weekend I will get to give her a run so she wont feel like a 'shelf queen'.

No mate, just been too busy.
The last few weekends have been spent up at Leigh where we are planning to build a house.

Finally got to give her a maiden voyage this morning with mixed results.

First the good news - 40 mph target speed reached with GPS reading of 42.6 mph.and temps were all OK after 1 minute run.
BUT - Eagle Tree showed average current draw of 70 amps and peaks of 88 amps with an X438 prop. (Eeeek, motor is only rated at 55 amps)
So plan B is to replace the $29.95 2200 KV motor with a $31.95 KD36-74-9XL with a 1900 KV rating to try and reduce the current but keep the same top speed.
That's $2 over budget but damn the expense.
It's hosing down with rain again now so next step in 'project el cheapo' will have to wait til next weekend.

How did the boat itself handle Graham?

I would have thought if the temps on the mtotor were good you'd be sweet....ratings are only ratings after all Learned that with my CC240....

Pity bout the crap weather...even in the deep south of the city here its crap

    Hi Tyler
Handling wasn't too bad, went like a cut cat in a straight line but bounced a bit in the turns.
Mind you I was running in the quarry so had to make fairly tight turns at half throttle, might be OK on the oval at full speed.
Will bring her down to Hakanoa next Sunday.

Sorry for the wasted post, if I would have read a little closer, I would have seen where te hull came from. Hard to make out if the nose is like a Fountain or not! "atleast for me". Very nice looking boat tho
