Which wind are the 2250's again? and what are you thinking with for props?
i picked up some abc and they look a little hot,...
Motors are 2250/5. I tested on 1715s last summer and Temps were fine. I'll be starting again with those.
Slightly more rpm than ill be running on 2250/7 and 8s, i have 2016-17-45's as my biggest prop, i think ill run them max 7s, maybe 8s for SAW.
have 457 cut to 52mm and 447 to play with also. all brand new and done by andy b.
Alright alright alright alright! New ESC's are wired, plumbed, connected, and mounted. Very happy with how it turned out. Getting some vinyl decals cut for the top plates. School bus yellow hopefully is a good match.

Glued up 4 new flex cables, cut to length and polished smooth in the drill. Floating in the tub upstairs checking for leaks. Had a leak last summer that I couldn't track down. I think it was a dried out O-ring on the click drive mount which has since been replaced and greased up. Weather looks favorable for possible sea trials on Saturday.

First run of the season went well last weekend. It was windy and the water was choppy, but it was important to get the boat in the water and establish a baseline. First run was just a handful of passes on 1714 props. Checked for water flow from the cooling lines, both motors spun up at the same time, steering was good, brought it back in. Temps were all cold, so was the lake water. Swapped in a second set of batteries and put on the 1715 props. Made a few passes at 50%-75% throttle, looked and sounded good. Water was too choppy to try and go wide open. Lost the boat in the sun on the last pass and it flipped. Luckily it landed business side up and brought it back to the dock. Still too much water in the hull. No leaks in the bathtub, so it's likely coming through the tubes or a leak in a water jacket perhaps. I have a weed sprayer tank I'm going to use to pressure test the cooling lines. If those check out, I'll make some heat shrink seals for the ends of the stuffing tubes.

My sister cut some vinyl decals for my ESC tops. Gives the interior a little bit of color.

I also used my lathe today to make my first parts from scratch. Turned out pretty good. When I initially installed the drives on this boat two years ago, I measured wrong and cut the tubes too short. I made up the difference with some 12mm long aluminum tube spacers. It was a so so fix because there was still a bit of play in the joint between the tube and drive. I turned down some aluminum tube to match the OD of the drive tubes, and stepped them down to slip inside the existing tube ends. Then I bored them out with a 1/4" bit in the lathe tailstock so there was room for the prop shafts and grease around the cables. Cleaned everything with acetone and then glued them in place with Loctite 648. Nothing looks any different once assembled, but there's no longer any play and overall they're much stronger.

Actually when a 100mph pass ends on land this is what it looks like. No matter what type of hull.
It may be repairable with a lot of effort or a low quality carbon hull would just be complete scrap but you will not just walk away from such a crash.
This is why I don't paint fast boats. When painting them and I really like the American Ethanol design, it is murphys law that something like this will go wrong.

sanding and shaping is done and initial coat of primer is down. The AE team is changing some logos for the 2021 season. I had considered updating my paint scheme to match, but really like the original Big Thunder logos (no longer a sponsor) and will probably stay with that version with just a few small updates.

Forgot to update this post when I got the hull back just before Christmas. I looks better than new. All paint and body work was done by Nick Battiato at Vivid Image Custom Paint. I decided to stick with the original Big Thunder sponsorship even though the team has a new livery for this season. The 23 logos are larger this time, closer to scale, and the "Recycler" logo was added to the rear of the hull.
