That's going to be a good looking boat. Can't wait to see it finished!
I love watching the start of a new build.
It's gonna be a bit before I really get rolling on this project, need to make a jig and I decided to trace out patterns and cut out the frames, instead of potentially destroying two good kits with some unforeseen problem: Attachment 165507 Attachment 165508 Attachment 165509
Nice day out. Got to watch the APBA Gold Cup...if it wasn't for that jumped start ...oh well. Got most my frames cut out and had some time today to start assembly those frames...Attachment 165731 Attachment 165732 Attachment 165733 Attachment 165734
I can't decide if I should use the 1/16 ply i have in there already for the sponson air foils or cut it out and install 1.5mm carbon fiber sheet....Attachment 165735 Attachment 165736 Attachment 165737
Use composites where ever you can they are stronger and more dimensionally stable. Composites don't need to be sealed and are easy to prep for paint. Do you plan on adding any lightening/drain holes to your bulkheads?
Ok, you convinced me. Just ordered some carbon fiber sheet. I think drain holes is a wonderful idea...got any pics on how you do that? As far as weight reduction holes in the bulk heads, I'm not gonna worry about it this time around. I'm just still learning how to build these things and at this point I'm just happy to have a boat in the water. If I get into serious competition I definitely will have to do that.
Ok, I received that carbon fiber sheet about a week ago, and today I had some time to cut out the wood, and cut out the carbon fiber sheet to fit test. I would say this was a good call K.R.Joye. now I can sand down the tops of the sponson stringers to shape, without them being in the way, And then just drop in those airfoils, after sheeting.Attachment 165894 Attachment 165895 Attachment 165896 Attachment 165897
I had a nasty failure when I epoxied my cockpit onto the body...during curing (slow cure epoxy) the left side slid down an 1/8th....so this is on hold until I make up my mind on what to do about it...any ideas is welcome..
Attachment 172466 sooo much left to do and my boat shop is a complete mess.....I can't work in these conditions..lol
