Hifei esc's .....pros and cons !

Hi guys I'm looking to get a decent esc for a 8S set up with a 1600kv or less motor and would like to hear from you what do you think of the Swordfish 240Hv and the Turnigy aquastar 240 basically similar products.I've been reading reviews and discussions about these products and I coudn't make any conclusion where are the pros and cons of these esc's......your comments are welcome! Thanks Gill

I don't know much about the SF240s, but I do know that the motor you are choosing is almost guaranteed to burn them up. A 1600 Kv is way too high on 8S, even for SAW racing. Go with "or less", a lot less. Depending on the use, boat size and motor size, a Kv around 1100 will work better and be more ESC-friendly in a freely running rigger.

I have had the 240 for 3 years and run 180 amps continuous and peaks as high as 372 amps with no problems.
I only run NUE Y wind motors, NO deltas.

I ran a Lep 5692 1000 kv (D wind) on 8s in my big mono for a while. The esc handled it fine but couldn't get the timing low enough to keep the motor cool. Still using the same swordy 240 with the Castle 2028 that took the Leopards place. 9 and occasionally 10s 2p with a X457/3. No problems. My swordy is around 3 years old as well.
As for the Lep, it runs better (cooler) on 6s with a Turnigy 180 set at 3.5 degrees spinning a 457/3 in a 54" hull.

I'm running a neu 2230 on 12s 18 lb. rigger. presently running fightercat 400 amp 16 s esc seems they're future is not looking good, do you think the 240 would be a good unit for me ?

I would get the 300 amp HV with added cap bank.

                  SF240HV pre 09-2011 are brilliant.
After that date, the caps are Kr not Japanese.. and extra caps are mandatory to avoid smoke release.
Jp Tsunami washed everyone's preferred cap factory&stockpile out to sea... 8(

There appears to be clones the FC esc from Shanghai ... tsk tsk.

Thanks for the heads up, And pre date info.
So now where do I find a good cheap hv esc to run 8s and 10s in my stealth mono 48"long with a 5692 730kv for sport running,
                    Whit out seeing smoke release.

SF are still great despite that one component downgrade
Ive assembled a pair the TFL Genesis56" ( FC Daytona56) for a LHS with the newer SF240HV & same leo on 12S !.. with a cap bank there's no probs.
Anyhoo.. on a large motor like that, any esc appreciates extra caps , so it's not like it's a penalty..!
                      as parallel caps, a net return of 3000-4000uf is good ( 63V470uf x8 )

apologies for a quick hijack the thread.

                        Thanks,
I thought the Swordfish was having some problems, Like castle did some time back.
And I think it is all good info for this post.
