Looks like Paypal has done away with no fees on "Gift" payments. I tried to make a gift payment to a friend yesterday and there is now a box that says something like, click here if you want to pay the fee. If not the receiver will pay a fee.

Not surprising, after all to transfer money on-line for free will be a thing of the past. Noone does it anymore... Gezzzz ATM machines charge you to give you you're money. Makes no sense to me...I'm waiting for the banks to start charging for ACH transfers. It's about the only thing that's free anymore. And the internet goes on
Have a great day folks -
We used to. When we once upon a time recieved interest on the money we kept in our savings and checking accounts.
I now hear from a friend that manages a bank, that banks are actually CHARGING a fee to customers who deposite very large sums of money. Is that NUTS! I forget which one it was, but it was a large New York bank.Steven Vaccaro

I never understood how it was OK for the bank to CHARGE ME to hold MY money so they can make more money.......or get charged for not having a certain amount in the bank, or the ATM fees. You have to pay someone to get access to money that is yours.Comment

I can understand ATM fee's. It cost those banks a ton of money to keep those atms active. My next door neighbor had a corner store that was about 150 square feet, tiny, tiny. But its on a corner. A bank signed a 20 year lease at $2000 a month for the spot. A place that should be about $200 a month.Steven Vaccaro

We will need it when the werewolves start taking over...
Do you know what the fee was Steve? Was it the same as a "goods" transaction fee?
I do use the "gift" feature at times basically as a way of transfering money (not talking about buying stuff) but I may have to limit my paypal use or change my methods if I'm getting charged every time.Comment

Something else I was just thinking of...
Did you have enough money in your paypal account Steve? If you don't have enough in your account and paypal has to pull money from your checking account or a credit card, you get charged a fee even on gifts...it's always been that way.Comment

I don't know about the checking account option. I try to keep hobby money seperate, so I don't generally pull from our account. If I sell an RC or something locally I usually give a friend that has money in thier paypal account and they gift it to me. I could deposit that money and then add it to paypal from the bank, but like I said I try to not even pull from my account at all. If I buy RC stuff I usually use what's in my paypal account, or I don't but it. My wife and I both like it better that way. She doesn't concern herself with what I'm spending or reaping, and I don't feel like she is judging me for how I choose to spend on things that she doesn't understand.Comment
