I have been using pipe cleaners from the craft store every time I grease my shafts etc. Just push in from one end all the way then pull right out the other end to remove all the water/grease/particles. You can twist 2 together to make a log one for the big boats also. Cheap and easy.
Personally, I think this should go into the drive line tips section, but that is somebody else's call. I can't be the first to think of this, but I have yet to see it mentioned anywhere.
