Okay...
So I'm at my lake house the sun is just starting to set, I'm sitting on the dock with my girlfriend smoking a cigar enjoying a makers and coke just enjoying the evening...
When out of nowhere this RC boat come FLYING past my dock spraying a rooster tail 10 feet behind it. It was my neighbor with his new toy. It wasn't a spartan but it was fast. I yelled over to him and asked just how fast it was... He said it would hit about 40-45 mph. Sub conscientiously it was at this point i knew I had to have an RC boat. Not just any boat, a boat faster then my neighbors. (I'm a bit competitive).
I bought a spartan with Lipos. Ran it the first time and loved it but in the process I QUICKLY learned a few things...
1) 1 set of batteries DOES NOT CUT IT!
2) It is not easy running an RC boat 40-50 MPH successfully... a great deal of factors way in while trying!
* A totally calm glass lake helps!
* TRIM TABS TRIM TABS TRIM TABS! are a must! I'm even adding a 2nd set!
* A good balanced prop is a must.
* Telemetry although not required is sure a heck of a lot of fun!
3) Great boat but it sure over heats easily.
4) This boat takes on water easily.
5) People flock to it when you run it. (because of the speed i guessing)
With that being said... I bought a few things.
Adjustable Trim Tabs. (2nd set on the way)
Turn Blades
Dual Pick Up Rudder
Better Engine Cooler
Balanced Metal Prop
Telemetry Extender
GPS Unit
ESC Temp Sensor
Motor Temp Sensor
Battery Pack Voltage Sensor
Reverse Plate (Reduces water entering the hull when reversing).
Foam Tape (For the hatch).
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! did that make a world of difference! After taking time to trim it out properly and teaching myself how to drive it properly I can hit well in excess of 60MPH.
I check the voltage use of the packs, ESC & Motor temps and speed all real time on my iPad. VERY cool feature I highly recommend this!!!
