Blackjack 26 won't run in reverse

I just picked up my first RC boat, a BJ 26. It was a scratch and dent deal from an online hobby shop. I've put in a Spektrum 3-channel car receiver (I sprayed a conformal coating on it for waterproofing) and I'm using a DX3S transmitter. It won't go into reverse at all. If I reverse the throttle channel in the controller, and then press the controller's throttle into reverse, the motor runs forward, but it will never run in reverse no matter the settings.

Does the BJ26 come with reverse disabled by default? I don't have the programmer card yet, and the book doesn't show this as being programmable without it. Any other ideas?

i dont remember my stock fastech ever going in rev and they have the same esc

Swamp, typically the faster RTR do not have a reverse anymore.... and you don't really want it anyways. As far as I know anything above the widowmaker doesn't have reverse in the proboat models (Fasttech, MG, etc)

Well that sucks, if I want to really putt around the marina reverse would certainly be useful. Ah well, I suppose for playing around obstacles this is the wrong boat. I had just ASSumed that boat ESCs would all have reverse.

Yup liked mentioned no reall fast electric boat have reverse. It's not even an option. The flexcable wouldn't last very long. I am surprised traxxas put reverse in their new boat, but with all the issues they are having seems they don't know really to much about building a good boat.

Also a boat like that isn't designed to "putt around" running at part throttle will overheat the esc and possibly fry it. They are designed for full throttle mostly running.

Understood, but that is definitely not going to stop me from trying it anyway. I understand the electronic principles, but these are my toys, and I'm going to play with them how I want to.

Not sure why you feel the need to correct me two months later, but I made it a point to acknowledge the previous posts' correctness while noting that it is just a toy. If there rules that make it less fun, I'm going to ignore them.

I've now put a hell of a lot of hours on the boat running 5S LiPo batteries with very little full throttle time. No issues yet. Seems like the partial throttle problem may be overstated. I've made no effort to drive it in any special way, and the kids sure don't.

Reverse would still be nice sometimes, but I do understand the problems as others educated me.
