Im glad you asked, I've been wondering that as well. ive read to angle them, shorten them, or glass in the last step and dont use any at all?? To me it sounds like it just takes trial and error to see what suits you and your driving style best. Im betting it wont take long before more knowledgeable people (Anyone but me)can answer this better.
Most folks bend the fins the same angle as the hull, also like my self shorten them, to start
before cutting raise them up to the first mounting hole, bottom bolt to the top bolt hole position and tape over or fill in the bottom hole and see how it handles, I just cut that amount off mine, actually I used a bench grinder.
I have been thinking about sloting the bottom hole so I can try different angles and sse what works best, a ( variable angle turn fin. )

I agree. sometimes less in the water is better. lets see fist i completely took my turn fins off the sides and mounted directly to the transom. worked alot better allready just being away from the sides to dig into the water when turning. Relocated to the sides of the transom and drilled out the fins stock wholes to be adjustable and mounted on the sides (Pictured) Now with this setup i dont know if its my style of driving or just the fact that its done alot better for listing and turning, but i can take good turns at full throttle running NiMH. As u can see from the pictures i have not changed the drive setup. The only problem i have are those real hard dont hit the next guy turns it tends to spin out still, for the most part its a good thing tho.

Wonder how it acts with lipos, verrrry interesting.
You and me both. Im waiting on my lipos and charger now. I set 3 batts in the boat at one time. 21.6volts, i did it for a short time. it got to be a pain in the ass having to charge an odd amount all the time but it would freaken fly. even with the extra weight. but my apache still outruns it lol.
