    Anyone trimming their radio boxes?

For those of us that can keep our boats water tight.
Ive seen other SV's with a trimmed up radio box.

Really its only possible if your boat is absolutely water right and well after my Supervee spending some time upside down in the water a couple times over Memorial Day weekend i have come to find out that i have got a water tight boat.

I went ahead and did some trimming.
Ive got another brand new box is something seems to go wrong with the whole water tightness.

Here's a picture to show what im talking about.

Im thinking about going with some sort of hardwood as a base and then seal it and mount an aluminum servo mount on that for my servo.
Im happy with what ive got right now though.

      Thats pretty nifty right there.

I would say you lowered the COG by quite a bit by tucking the ESC where you did.

cheers z... i originally trimmed the box down but after a few beers with a mate i decided to lose it... i ve since strapped down the esc... just plain ol velcro around the driveshaft...

running great now... i m most stoked about my servo mount.... no bolts / zip ties... just a slot in the wood and the front of the servo dremeled and wedged into the motor mount... took a file to the motor mount as well.. super tight fit...

now i just need to lay up a bit more velcro... i ve been wedging pool noodles inside to keep the packs located... works ok but a bit more velcro is the go...

lovin the boat... screams with the 9xl and matched gp3700s.... can t wait to get some lipos in it :)

When you get some lipos i dont think the stock esc will live to long. And not to hijack this thread i took out the box and just put a thin piece of ply in its place

Thats what im going to end up doing.
Cut out a thin piece of plywood.
I'll probably use a piece of birch or something.

i was a little worried about the esc when changing to lipos... think i ll have a problem with a 20 C discharge rate??? the esc get barely warm as is with nimh... i guess the 20 c llipos will be a big bump in power...

if you both have watertight boats i say lose the tray... mine handles much better now than ever... cleaner looking and a lower COG... all good...
