SV running sluggish!

I just took out my new SV on the water for the first time today & noticed that the boat was performing sluggish! When I would hit the throttle it would only do 5mph then sometimes when I let the throttle go & press it again it would perform normally then go back to being slow again! I am using 2 venom 7.2 3000mah packs with Tamiya to deans plug adapters. Is it possible that this can be a connection problem or a battery problem? These batteries are a year old now & I am only getting mostly 7mins run time.

Sounds like the adapters to me. Scap em and run deans. the batteries are on the small side but the should be ok.

Alright then I'll just solder deans connectors on the batteries. How much run time does a 4000-5000mah battery give you?

Venom batts are bottom of the line. Upgrade and you will be much happier.

What was the normal estimated speed and what are the temperatures. I presume you ran the boat more than once, as you state a run time of 7 minutes.

Usually don't these boats supposed to be rated @ 30-35mph. But when I did a first time run on full charged packs it ran so slow for the first 5 mins then suddenly it sped up as I applied the throttle again for a few minutes then it died! I didn't check the temp since I didn't have a temp gauge with me but it didn't feel that hot. The second round it did the same thing but when I retrieved it after it died that's when the motor felt hot. Could the sluggish performance be because I'm using Tamiya connectors?

Tamiya connectors are not very good and Venom stuff ditto. I still find it strange that the boat ran well for a few minutes after a slow start. Did you test run the motor with no load at full throttle for more than 3 seconds?

I performed the test with no load for a few seconds but it seemed to be running fine. But since this is my first boat I couldn't tell how the speed of the prop should be when there was no load. I just did a quick check after I installed my batteries & assumed it ran fine until I put it on the water. But anyways I went to my LHS today & picked up a pair of 7cell 8.4v 3000mah batteries by Electrifly & a Castle BEC to accumulate the extra voltage since you gotta run a seperate bec or a battery pack for the SV. I just went with the bec idea so I don't have to add more weight to the boat!

its your batts mate. I was running venom 3600's and it would hardly get on plane, really slow to drive etc. I bought some decent cells and it made all the diff. Now I run lipo, no contest to nimh. buy a lipo sheild and 2 x 2s packs. this REALLY opens this hull up :)

Yeah I already bought a pair of Electrifly 7cells 3000mah batteries w/ deans. I still gotta install the castle bec to accumulate for the extra voltage.
