Grim, since I see you hanging around OSE I will ask you this. I often wanted to try out some of your props but I never really understand the sizing. Can you give us all some light on this and also which props might be a good choice for the SV both 2 or 3 blades and what we can expect from them.

I so far like the octura X642 the best for a bunch of reasons, speed, handling and low stress on the system. Then second I like the octura M445 for its quick wildness of a ride, also not bad on the system.

1st number denotes dia(in mm) 2nd number is pitch (also in mm) to compare to octura divide pitch by dia p/d a 42 x 55 would be (in the octura scheme) a(1)342 going the other way an oct 642 would be 1.6*42 = 42 x 67 hth

Added the GrimRacer props to FeCalc where you can compare them to other props. None seem to match up exactly with the Octura's. Makes me want to try a few.

Rex is right..

First is MM Dia
Second it MM Pitch

Some of the props are custom built to my specs so you might not find them at the ABC website.

Having said this the 42X55 is my pick for the SVBL and the 40X53 for the SVN. Both are low lift props and work quite well on Monos. The 40X52/3 is a great prop for sport hydros as well as monos and tunnels but causes more cavatation (more blades more cavatation) to some surface drive monos.

Truth is I like to tune (in or out) the amount of cavtation to my application.

I Agree with jlr3ed1 i had the same problem and i switched over to an Octura x642 and its awesome it gets on plain really fast.

"IF" Getting on plane realy fast is your goal then you have the right prop.. if not............

I used that prop on my SV and had to hand launch it once on plane it hauled a@#.

not worried bout fast plane,but the boat went half way cross lake and never planed out?? tried more than once?? my other props work fine??

40/52-3 on mine is a fast prop. It may cavitate 3 feet or so but when it launches watch out!!! I find the 42/55 is by far the fastest prop on my setup 52.8 on the garmin.

Touché.. In our modern internet savvy world you can just ask! A true advantage don’t you think.

OK.. it might be that you did not have to do this with others props but here we go…

Questions:
Did you sharpen the prop?
Did you try lowering the strut? (Tilting it down)?
Did you hold the power down full throttle to attempt to get it on plane?
Did you have fully charged “Good” packs?
Did you hand launch the boat or stop start it?

Answers:
The prop should be razor sharp or the prop can develop lift (BAD on a mono)and excess cavatation (some times this is good)
Lowering the strut places more prop in the water. This can be good and this can be bad depending on how much load you want on the electronics.
With some props you have to hold full power (lots of RPM) to get the boat on plane. This can be some what typical of a surface drive mono.
Good pack with lots of voltage can provide you the necessary RPM to load the prop during launch.
To get an idea of how much cavatation you might have during operation it might be necessary to hand launch the boat (toss it forward and nail the power as the boat touches the water.
