What happens when you run the drive system without the teflon tube? I noticed that I did not installed the teflon tube when I added a new flex shaft to my SV 27. The worst thing is that I had run it a few times already... ???

Nothing...I think more run without than with. Good lube is key but also that the tube is not too large for the cable or you can bind it up. .150 in a .250 tube is pretty large but if it works then woo-hoo.

If you ran it and you don't see anything wrong you are fine. A run or two should not harm anything. Running with no flex tubing has been an old tip from the racing days to gain a little speed as the cable is less restricted-but at a price.

The idea is that the tube is to help the cable not run against the drive tube shaft. It also does the following; align it, keep from binding as mentioned, and keep from burning a hole in the tube as metal to metal, something will eventually give. Some people run without the tubing, but I don't recommend it unless you have money to throw away and are always fixing things on the boat.

The tubing will eventually loosen up and putting in some good grease as mentioned is the best suggestion all round.

Funny, I have run without Teflon in any of my boats for over a decade (except for the new UL-1) and never - that's never - had a problem wearing the cable or the wire or the tubing. I race between 50 and 60 heats a year per boat and even though I always make the brass stuffing tubes replaceable - I've never replaced one.

The fact is that the Teflon will wear much sooner and much worse than the brass tubing as long as you use a decent lube. I prefer automotive 70-80W gear oil - WalMart for $3 a quart, lasts forever. Those who say there is more wear without the Teflon - have simply never tried it.

But you do need to use the right sized brass and not use severe bends. I suspect that you'd have better luck if you could line your current tube with the next size smaller tubing - or replace it entirely.
