SV 27 upgrade motor is "coughing"?

I just installed the Turnigy B3656-2300kv upgrade motor on my SV 27. According to Kintec this needs a 45 A ESC, so the stock ESC should work. But for some reason the motor doesn´t run smoothly in water. When I throttle, it takes a while until the motor has high RPM. This doesn´t happen with the stock motor as it reacts immediately to throttle.

The Turnigy is kind of "coughing" and "thinking" whether it should run or not? I have double-checked and the drive cable is ok ie. everything moves free.

Could it be the stock ESC? It has worked so far with the stock motor. I use 2 x Zippy Flightmax 2S lipos and they´ve worked perfectly. So what could be the problem here?

I also noticed that the top speed with the Turnigy was the same (or lower) than with the stock motor, although it should be 5 - 10 MPH faster with the same prop. So something really wrong here...

    Please help & advice, thanks!!
