EDIT And welcome to the Forums!!!!! -
Look over the hull very well for cracks, damage etc. Look over the electrics for burnt smell and any signs of arcing. Ask him to power it up for you and verify it arms and runs. Check the hardware, if everything works great have at it. It's a great boat and you will have lots of fun with it. Welcome to the forum!!!Comment

The most cost effective move would be too grab some lipo's. nimh is prob a little more novice friendly, but you will run into stopping point with them. I would honestly read up on lipo and lipo maintenance and care and with hobbcity.com you can get lipos cheaper than nimh you would purchase at your lhs or from another site.Comment

Too run lipos in a non-lipo ready esc "which the sv is non-lipo ready" I would suggest you purchase a lipo shield. Steve here at OSE is out of stock, but Jan at kintec seems to have some avaiable http://www.kintecracing.com/Electrical.html (scroll down to liposhield) what this does is protect your lipos from being discharged below 3.3 volts per cell. Just a comparsion in lipo to nimh check this out http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=14039Comment

That is a very nice selection of props. The x440/3 & grim 40x53 are kinda of similar. I would sell/trade one of them for a grim 42x55 or a x642. Boat and those props is a good deal in my book.Comment
