    Motor Leads (LENGTH)

Hey I am installing my esc's and have run into another problem. Im running outta room and my motor leads are going in opposite direction and need to add extensions. this I've never had to do and wondered if 8" totoal would be too long. I know they should be as short as poss. but I am running #12 wire.???

if u have packs where the cells are soldered end to end i would do it. but if they are side x side i would move the esc.

I run lipo's. remember these are motor leads not battery leads. If I ad extensios on motors I can leave battery leads around 6"

i would go for it just make sure u solder them well. or if u can resolder the longer leads to the esc that would be even better.

if you still have doubts you could always go to 10 guage wire, for the motor leads.

If you have to lengthen any wire, lengthen the power wires, not the motor leads. The longer the motor leads are the more trouble the ESC will have in determining the rotor position to set the timing. It is not resistance but impedence that matters here and increasing the wire gauge won't make any difference. This is particularly important for high performance/low impedence motors like the high amp Lehners and Neus.

Remember that you can bend the wires on the motor around to point towards the stern, just use pliers and go slowly. You may not need to lengthen anything.

Good info fluid, I figured he was running a brushed motor. didnt pick up on the short leads he was talking about.

Fluid, is it Z or X of L impedence that you speak of?

                  Mich,
Why don't you do it the same as me?
take look at this http://perso.orange.fr/pleindetrucs/...e/DSCF1988.JPG and this http://perso.orange.fr/pleindetrucs/...e/DSCF1986.JPG
you should be able to have your ESC's flush the opening, I've used some 2mm carbon to suspend mine in the opening with 4" of wires!!!

now it depends where your 2 motors are located compared to the opening?

looks like twin motor on this hull is a nightmare? and it's just the begining!

                  personnaly I'll get a Keda KB45-8XL 1700rpm/V 3500watts!!! :D

I'm french but I doubt I really am!

thats a great idea and nice engineering but my batts will be up a ways in bow for cog. I am actually mounting one on each side of boat, I will post pics tonight on my build thread. thould have motors spinning tonight! I will be so glad when I get it tuned in water. you just dont know. to be done and to start my next build.
